Shree Raghavarao - While welcoming you to the advaitin list, I am taking the

liberty to post your question and my answer to the entire list so that

others also have a chance for their input and give us better perspectives.

Your question is valid. Here is what I speculate. Others could provide a

better speculation than what I have given below.

In principle what you say may be true. If I am in the shwoes of Iswara who

has to design most efficient system, I have to establish an ecological

balance. And that is exactly He did! Plants take the raw minerals and water

from the soil and using sun light and photosynthesis to produce the food.

Remember this is a full time job for the plants during the whole day and

since process of yield is quite low. They donot have now any time left for

Vedantic study! Hence they are stuck at one place (sthaavaram) to be busy

in their whole life in this and in seeing that their species propagate. But

they need help from insects to do the fertilization for them - Insect would

not do voluntary service unless they get paid! Hence the honey for them to

lure. The system can stop here but we will end up just plants and bees. The

evlution has to proceed to state of manhood where the beeings reach a state

of godhood that is the highest beauty and fulfillment of life form. To

insure that there will not be just one species propagating the whole

planet, a natual ecological balance has to be set up. If you look up at the

total granduer level it is a perfect system you cannot but surrender to

that highest intelligence - the cycle continues till food goes back into the

soil for the plants to make a recycle food again. Hence life is full cycle

- janma, sthiti and laya all involved as the Brahmasuutra will explain with

reference to suutra 2. Hence destruction is part of janma - In reality

nothing gets destroyed - the matter gets ciculated and the soul can never

die anyway - na jaayate mR^iyate va kadaachit .. etc.

Hence Life lives on Life is only upto to plants, but plants are making food

starting from minerals in the earth and sunlight.Making food has become a

full time job for them, while by the time life evolves to human life form,

searching for food is only a small but essential part -One that is

satisfied, the major part of life is ultimately to reach a state of the very

fulfillment of life itself - to reach God-hood. Hence the glorification of

the human life form with a descriminative intellect. In otherlife forms it

is just efficient exhaustion of vaasanaa-s. In human life form, one can

exhaust, one can acquire new ones too and one can transcend all this time

limited process.

>Dear Sri Sadananda,

>Your article was very nice indeed.

>I had a question in this regard unaswered for a few years now. I

>always wondered, why the biological-ecosystem was set in place the

>way it is now, and if it was a mistake.

>Why must one life-form become food to another? I am not questioning

>an individual Tiger; I am questioning the whole process that was set

>not by a lone Tiger, but by something at a much higer level.

>A solution that I can offer - Each life form will get its nourishment

>from air and sunlight directly, just like we derive Oxygen from air

>without dependance on plants or animals.

>Thanks,
