Guest guest
Dear all, this message of a reader reached us and we kindly ask for any information if possible. Thanks a lot! Dear Sir I have read a lot of lectures of Swami Vivekanand. I liked the lectures very much and am amazed of his conversational capabilities. He was a great speaker so I had this ardent desire to listen to any of his lectures or piece of lecture. If I can get some audio clipping from you or you can tell me some source, I will be grateful. Guest guest
Namaste, Swami Vivekananda's lectures and dialogues read by various volunteers are available on cassettes (over a dozen) from Vedanta Press Books [800-816-2242]; e-mail: info] In the biography of Swami [The Life of Swami Vivekananda, by his Eastern and Western Disciples,1981, 5th Ed. Advaita Ashram, Mayavati, Vol. 2, p.491] there is an interesting reference: "...He spent also quiet, relaxed times with the Hale family, reading, perhaps listening to the cousins play duets on their two pianos, and now and then, making recordings for them by talking into the big, flaring megaphone of one of Thomas Edison's primitive phonograph machines. What became of the wax cylinders or disks that bore the impress of the Swami's voice is not at present known.....[1899]" Regards, s. advaitin , Carla Geerdes <editors@h...> wrote: > Dear all, > > this message of a reader reached us and we kindly ask for any information if possible. > > Thanks a lot! > > Cordially, > Carla Geerdes > http://www.here-now4U.de > online magazine > > > > --- HIER BEGINNT DIE WEITERGELEITETE NACHRICHT --------------------- --------- > Von: varun.aggarwal@v... Guest guest
Namaste, Addendum: At URL: http://www.vedanta-newyork.org/articles/history.htm "On his arrival in New York in the August of 1897, Swami Abhedananda began classes and to carry the work forward after an initial period of travel and touring. For him, this was a period to reestablish contacts with friends of both the Society and of Swami Vivekananda himself. It was also during this time that along with Saradananda, he visited and met with the inventor Edison in his laboratory. When Swami Saradananda arrived in New York on January 8, 1898 on the eve of his departure to India, the address of the yet temporary home of the Society was listed as 170 Lexington Avenue. (There is some doubt on the address 170; according to an alternative source this is probably 117)(22)". I recall reading somewhere that Edison made a recording of Swamiji's voice in his lab., but I do not remember the source of this item. If any reader happens to know, please post the info. Thanks.
