Guest guest
Hari Om! Dear All, During my recent visit to India I went to see one of the saints Pottu Mami at Chennai. She is an inspiration to many people. If you ever visit to Chennai do not miss a chance to listen while she is singing "Soundarya Lahari".... Many Advaitin members requested me to have more information regarding Pottu Mami. Please find below the Article. I thank Gasusima, a member of our list, for writing and sending the article. advaitin/Saints/PottuMami2%2EJPG advaitin/Saints/PottuMami1%2EJPG Sri Rajarajesvari, also known as 'Pottu Mami', is a disciple of Sri Chandrashekharendra Saraswati. Little is known about her except her steadfast and intense love of and devotion to Divine Mother. She was given a small conical piece of turmeric+sandalwood paste by Sri Shankaracharya asking her to worship it daily. As she began worshipping it, it took on a life, and began growing. Divine Mother was so happy with the worship that Pottu Mami had to make more and more space for Her in her little worship room as She grew bigger and bigger. At some point she has to request Divine Mother not to grow any further, because there was no space in her small house to keep a large Divine Mother. Divine Mother told her that She will stop growing. That is what is seen now in her worship room. When people come to her she is always smiling, talking of Divine Mother and Her greatness, helping them understand and grow in devotion through wonderful singing, and marvelous real life stories connected with spirituality and spiritual texts. When she begins talking about Divine Mother, time stands still. One totally gets immersed in the present with rapt attention. Even if one doesn't understand the language spoken, the language of the heart takes over. Although she has always lived in crowded and noisy streets, her continuous talk on Divine Mother and related stories on Shiva are so totally absorbing that it looks like hours have gone by faster than anticipated and planned and one comes out totally refreshed. It takes a little time to adjust to the outside world again after leaving her presence. Being well versed in Tamil and Sanskrit, she composed poetry with wonderful melting words in praise of Divine Mother. She is so positive that any one who comes to her with any problem leaves with the confidence that Divine Mother will definitely help them out of their trouble. At 3 a.m. she is blessed with the vision of Divine Mother's lotus feet. Setting aside her own problems, her focus is always on helping others. For all that total devotion and surrender to Divine Mother, she functions as a normal householder wife, mother, grand mother, friend etc... yOga ratOvA bhOga ratOvA saMgaratOvA saMga viheenaH yasya brahmaNi ramatE cittaM naMdati naMdati naMdatyEva || Yours, Madhava
