Manu Smriti - 2:234 -

 

sarve tasya aadR^itaaH dharmaaH yasya ete trayaH aadR^itaaH .

anaadR^itaaH yasya ete sarvaaH tasya aphalaaH kriyaaH ..

 

"All duties have been fulfilled by one who honors those three

[namely, mother, father, and teacher].

To one who honors them not, all rites remain fruitless."

shruuyataa.n dharma-sarvasva.n shrutvaa cha eva avadhaaryataam.h .

aatmanaH pratikuulaani pareshha.n na samaacharet.h ..

 

Listen to to the essence of Virtue, and having listened remember it.

Treat not others in ways that cause misery to you.
