Just as a tiny seed has the potential to grow into huge tree, every human being has the capacity to become divine, numerous spiritual masters say while giving inspiration to men and women who come to them. Each one has the energy within, which when tapped and properly used or cultivated as done in the case of a seed to make it become a tree, he will become supreme. For this, meditation represents the cultivation of that energy in us. There is nothing in this material world which will satisfy men's hunger or thirst forever. He has to eat again and again. That is the reason all of us have to drink spiritual nectar. We crave for spiritual satisfaction which cannot be easily obtained, but it is within us. Hence saints have led devotees on the path of meditation. In order to develop spiritually, it is necessary to take to this process. For this an object has to be kept or visualised before us. If the meditator's mind vacillates, his experience of God will not be clear. Every man can be free to be divine or a satan, can become an angel or a devil, attain heaven or hell, or can pluck a rose or its thorn. It is up to the individual to enjoy peace or to feel himself miserable. The spiritual man knows that the world is a vehicle for him and that when he reaches the destination he has to get down. In the same way, a person needs a body (which is a vehicle) and to get the maximum benefit out of it, he should resort to spiritual exercises, and take to meditation. The divine guides speak of this procedure to those who approach them. The more we take to meditation, the stronger we will become mentally. The Kingdom of God is within us and scriptures advise us ``Seek and you shall find and knock, the door will be opened.'' Tulsidas says ``Disgrace to a person who does not enshrine God within and see Him within.'' One can read holy books and sit in worship, still the mind will resist the attempts to concentrate. The mind runs after vanishing objects but the Lord makes His moves and enlivens a human being by pulling the strings (of breath) from behind, said Sri Musafir Anand in a lecture, quoting Tulsidas. Even men with wicked propensities can be reformed by making them seek the company of saintly men as a rusted metal can be polished with a superior type of stone. When the mind of a restless man is constantly disturbed, he should go to a spiritual guide, pouring out his heart to him, requesting him to teach how to meditate. Arjuna was in the same situation and did not want to fight with the Kauravas and even preferred to beg than wage the war. Then Krishna gave him true knowledge changing his whole life. God Himself advised Arjuna to meet a realised soul and ask him to reveal the value of true-knowledge. Copyrights: 2000 The Hindu & Tribeca Internet Initiatives Inc.
