There is always reduplication involved in this kind of a constructions, with the first syllable using an i/I sound, when the verbal root has a or i sounds in it. e.g. jijnAsA - from root jnA, to know, pipAsA - from root pI, to drink, mImAmsA - from root mi, to measure, ninISA - from root nI, to bring/carry, vivakSA - from root vac, to speak. When the root verb has the u sound, the reduplicated sound uses u in the first syllable, e.g. bubhukshA - from root bhuj, to eat, mumukshA - from root muc, to liberate. Since all these constructions are of the form "desire to ..." it is called the desi-derative form of the verb. There is one correction that may be in order: miimaa.nsaa is a desiderative of root verb 'man', [=to reflect on]. mi = to measure.
