Indra (indriyaanam rajaH) stands for intellect. Only when the intellect went to inquire into the nature of the reality, it disappears leaving Indra to wonder about. The reality cannot be comprehended by the intellect but yet it is the only one that comes close to finding the truth - Through the intellect it extends its illumination to the world around since through the intellect the world is illuminated or recognized. Uma stands for shruti - It is the shruti that tells about Brahman to the intellect which is trying to find what that star was that illumined. - It is in last chapter of Kena wherein the truth that contained in the earlier chapters is retold in a story form.
