At the outset I would like to thank you for giving me an opportunity to

serve you

as the Chief-Moderator of this list in the year 2000. I take this

opportunity to express

my sincere gratitude to all of you the help and co-operation during my last

one year chief-moderator ship.

I am sure without your help moderation would have been an uphill task for

me.

Now the time has arrived that I hand over the responsibility to someone

else.

(1) NEW CHIEF-MODERATOR FOR THE YEAR 2001: Prof. Gummaluru Murthy

As you may be aware, the Chief-Moderator responsibility gets rotated

annually. This rotation is to help the list to get new ideas and

vitality.

Accordingly Prof. Gummaluru Murthy will be the Chief Moderator for the

year 2001. Sri Murthy will assume his responsibility from January 2001.

As per the tradition I would like to write a few words about Sri Murthy. He

is one of the scholarly members of this list. He is very active in local

spiritual

discussion groups. He has been living in Canada for the last 25 years. I

it is my pleasure to introduce Prof. Murthy in his new role as The Chief

praNAms.

I am most grateful to the co-moderators for asking me to be the

Chief Moderator for the next few months. I would like to assure

the List that in coordinating the activities of the List, I would

follow in the footsteps of my two predecessors shri Ram Chandran

and shri Madhava. It is a tall order for me but I will try to meet

that level.

Firstly, it is my pleasant duty to acknowledge and express my and

the List's gratitude to shri Madhava Turumella for the excellent

guidance and the steady leadership which he provided for the List

during the past year. Under his able guidance, the List has initiated

many theme-oriented discussions with bhagavadgItA and brahmasUtrA-s

forming the main focus. Shri Madhava, in spite of his many committments

otherwise and in spite of his frequent movements across continents,

has led the List steadily and for this we are ever grateful.

Secondly, I like to welcome the newest member of our coordinating

team, shri Sunder Hattangadi. As the members know, shri Sunder is

a prolific contributor to the List with excellent command of English

and sanskrit. He has access to all the spiritual information (both in

eastern and western spiritual literature) at his fingertips and much

more important, he has the willingness to share that knowledge with

the List. That is an excellent plus-factor for a coordinator and we

are sure that he will give us that valuable advice and be a huge

resource person. Shri Sunder is already co-opted to be a co-leader

in our bhagavadgItA presentations.

I like to present to the List in the coming weeks what we aspire

for the List in the coming year. After all, the List is what the

members make it to be. With advice from such a wonderful team of

coordinators, and with the List showing such maturity and seriousness

of purpose, we can truly stand up to our motto of discussions of shri

shankara's philosophy at the highest level.

I pray that shri shankara (my paramaguru) and shri lalitA

(my iShTadevatA who is always with me and directs every step

of my life) will guide me to do things properly.

Regards

Gummuluru Murthy

Pranams to Madhavaji, Murthy-garu, and Fellow Pilgrims,

How much I appreciate your Satsang can be gauged by how kind and

considerate all of you have been without complaining [at least

openly!] about the way I seem to 'hog' the bandwidth of the postings.

I have gained much by the exchange of ideas with all of you, and

it will continue to be a source of inspiration for all of us to be

guided by Prof. Murthy during the coming year.

Again, thank you all, and let us continue our march in the foot-

steps of the Advaita Teachers.

Regards,

sunder

Harih Aum Madhavaji, Gummuluruji, and Sunderji:

First, on behalf of all fellow moderators and members of the list, I

want to thank Sri Madhava for his unselfish service as the Chief

Moderator of the list.

We are quite fortunate that Sri Gummuluru was kind enough to volunteer

his time to assume the Chief Moderator of the list beginning from

January 2001.

Sri Sunder, the newly inducted seventh moderator of the list is

Brahman's New Year Gift to the list. With his leadership and

guidance, Gita Satsang has been reenergized and members will be

motivated to participate in the upcoming discussions.

Happy Holidays and Prosperous New Year,

Ram Chandran

Note:

The seven member moderating team includes : Sri Gummulluru Murthy

(Chief), Sri Madhava Turumella, Sri K. Sadananda, Sri Frank Meillo,

Sri Greg Goode, Sri Sunder Hattangadi and Sri Ram Chandran.

I join Sri Ramji in his message. Thank you Sri Madhava-ji for your guidance

of the list for year 2000 with wisdom, generosity of spirit, and compassion.

You have all our heartfelt gratitude for your unselfish service and for

shining brightly your rays of light that help us to see clearly the inherent

wisdom of Self-Knowledge.

I also join Ramji in thanking Sri Gummuluru-ji for assuming the reins of the

chief moderator for the year 2001. Gummuluru-ji is well known to all of us

for his brilliant exposition of subtle points of both Bhagvad Gita and the

various Upanishads. Gummuluru-ji elucidates the central themes of scriptures

with the ease and grace of someone who has pondered the mysteries of life,

meditated on them with sincerity and conviction, and intuits the essence of

Divine Self Knowledge. The fragrance of this intuitive knowledge emanates

from his eloquent words as well as his being.

Similarly, I join Ram-ji in welcoming Sunder-ji as the seventh moderator of

the list. Actually, I always thought of Sunderji as one of the unofficial

moderators already for the enormous knowledge of scriptures at his

fingertips which he shares tirelessly. Time after time, we find Sunderji

producing an authentic Sanskrit verse from the scriptures or a quotation to

support a list member's point of view or to offer a differing perspective to

reflect on. At least on a few occasions, when I have recalled from a hazy

memory a point mentioned in either the Bhagvad Gita or from conversations

with Sri Ramana, Sunderji has generously provided the exact original verse

and the page from where that thought comes to clarify the issue further.

Sunder-ji's ability to find precisely the needed quote and verse reflects

his profound and deep understanding of the great truth and central theme of

Self-Knowledge that lies at the heart of our scriptures.

All the great souls that gives us light on this beautiful and exceptional

list community have our genuine gratitude. Thank you.

Love to all

Harsha

Namaste,

The gratitude that I feel toward Madhavaji would exceed that of

all of you, because he was instrumental in contacting me [out of the

blue] to join the list!

As we are wont to say, Guru Kripa [Grace of the Teacher] is

boundless, and whatever it was that inspired Madhavaji to recruit me

was in His inscrutable design for me. It has allowed me to refresh my

memory with a range of subjects that I would have missed otherwise,

and this Satsang has fulfilled my aspirations beyond expectations.

Thank you all, and Madhavaji in particular.

Regards,

s.
