Guest guest
Namaste, Information about Tirupati Vidyapeetha's Work on Creating Electronic Sanskrit Library K.V.Ramakrishnamacharyulu <kvrk Dear friends, Happy new year. As per the directions of Sri Vineet chaitanyaji I am giving the information about our Vidyapeetha 's work on creating Electronic library of Sanskrit works. Rastriya sanskrit vidyapeetha established by the govt. of India in 1962 as an autonomous Institution is now working as a deemed University under UGC. It has so many projects. For example (1)Agama kosa project- A project to bring an encyclopedia of Agama Literature (Temle culture). (2) Recording of Oral Sastra Tradition = recorded more than 600 hours in Mimamsa and Nyaya (a Project of Ford Foundation) (3) Vedas Tape recording Project - in coloberation with TTD etc. In Sanskrit year the Vidyapeetha proposed a Project called SANSK_NET the goal of which is to make available every thing in sanskrit either in printed form or in manuscripts in electronic form and to make available on internet. The aim of the project is not only just to make available the Texts but also to provide tools for analysis search etc.,. For this project Tirupati Vidyapeetha is made as nodal centre and CDAC Bangalore is choosen as a centre to give technical support. There are 5 participating centres which will create data in electronic form. The centres are - (1) Acadamy sanskrit research, Melkote (2) Ahobilamutt Sanskrit collage, Madhurantakam (3) Purnaprajna sansodhana mandiram,Bangalore (4)Chinmaya International foundation, kerala (5) CDAC, Bangalore. The Indian heritage group headed by Sri P.Ramanujam is made incharge to give technical support for this project. As a mark of beginning the project has taken to create electronic texts with padacceda and samasa markings of the following. (1) All vedas (2) All philosophical works of Sankara,Ramanuja, amd Madhvacarya. (3) Siddhantakoumudi (4) Grhyasutras (5) Ramayana (6) Main Upanishads and some Literature. It is also decided to bring bibliogrophys for different sastras and to scan the manuscripts available in these centres and make them available on CDs. Govt. has sanctioned grant for this project for one year only and the vidyapeetha has requested the Govt., to continue its financial support till the goal is acheived completely. But every thing depends upon the financial support. CDAC Bangalore is preparing Mahabharata in electronic form with added advantages like search padacceda samasa tagging etc. on the available Poona Text. This is also a Govt. project. The vidyapeetha has much material of its own like recorded tapes of oral sastras, agamakosa etc..and wants to make it available on net.Shortly vidyapeetha will have its own web cite where the material will be available. If any individual or institution is interested to collaborate with the vidyapeetha providing the texts in electronic form, providing OCRs or such useful tools, and finances the vidyapeetha has no reservations to collaborate.
