These are supposed to be > purifcatory and beneficial (refer to Hinduism by Swami > Harshanandaji , Ramakrishna Math). Harih Om Anandji: Just a small reminder. I believe there are total 16 saMskAras (shODaSa). Sandhya is not said to be saMskara, but the "Upanayana" where the sacred thread is offered is said to be the saMskAra. However, Sandhya (offering water to Sun God, and chanting Gayatri mantra) is a ritual performed along with Agnikarya (offering havis to the Sacred Fire God and requesting him to grant certain things like Good memory, Good friends, Good intellect --- mayi mEdhAM, mayi prajAM mayyagni stEjO dadhAtu...) Agnikarya is the most effective ritual, which is almost forgotten. Many people stopped observing this ritual. But it is my personal experience, that the gates of the celestial heaven are opened through Agnikarya, access to all Gods are possible through Agnikarya. Sandhya/Gayatri purifies the mind, Agnikarya uses that purified mind in order to connect to the other dimension/path which we rarely tread. I remain yours, Madhava > > 2.
