Guest guest
Dear All, On 27th January, I have called up Indian Consulate to find what kind of relief we could offer. They replied Clothes and money would do. I have collected money and handed over. But I have also collected a lot of used clothes, I have separated them as Children's clothes, Ladies clothes, and gents clothes and a box full of blankets. They are amounting up to 30 cartons. After doing all this exercise I called up the Consulate to know that Air India has stopped transporting Clothes. Now I am planning to send all these clothes on my own expenses. If anyone of you knew any relief organization working in Gugaraj quake hit area please let me know. All I need is an address of an organization which is willing to distribute the clothes and blankets. I will rush these cartons as soon as I receive the address. I just wanted to share my feelings related to this subject: I can understand the pain and grief which those people must be undergoing now. You may remember in 1993 there was an earthquake which devasted the Latur village in Maharashtra. I was in Bombay at that time. Some devotees from USA have colleted a lot of used clothes and forwarded them to my teacher H.H. Saradapriyanandaji. She called me and instructed me to hand them over to some organization which is doing this, or distribute them all by myself. But then I have decided to go and distribute the clothes myself. I have requested Indian Red cross in Bombay, they were kind enough to offer the transportation free of cost to Latur. Finally I landed there and distributed the clothes. I was at Latur for two weeks serving at that disaster area. I can still remember the happiness in the eyes of those hapless victims, while receiving clothes, blankets and all help which we could offer! I know what we did was a little compared to what needs to be done. But I know that it helps, all that we need is to help. Help as much as you can. Remember what Taittiriya says "SriyA dEyaM, bhiyA dEyaM, saMvidA dEyaM... aSraddhayA adEyam..." GOD bless those American devotees who sent clothes to Latur Victims. Since I have seen how much their help counted, I can for sure say that the blessings of the Almighty will fall abundantly on those American Devotees, for they did what ever little they could. Hari Om. I remain yours, Madhava
