Guest guest
Since there was a discussion regarding sat-chit-ananda.in the last posting by Frankaji, I thought I will quote from "Amritanubhava'" a treatise by Jyaneshwara. Chapter 5 Verse1: The Supreme is a triad of Existance,Knowledge, and Bliss; however, understand that they are missing in it ( The Suprem); like the poison is not in the poison. Commentery by the translater Mr R.K.Bhagwat: What is emphasised here is that the word sat-chit- ananda does not depict the supreme, because in the supreme they do not exist, just as the toxicity does not exist in the poison so for as it's effect on the poison itself is concerned. It kills the one who takes it, but it does not kill the poison itself. Verse 3: Whiteness, softness, and fragence are not three different entities. They appear in the form of one camphor. Verse 4: The whiteness of its body, nay, its whitness is it's softness or both of them are not there, it is only fragrance alone (once camphore is burnt) Verse 5: In this way three attributes are amalgamated in campher. In the same way existence etc. are fused ( in to the supreme). Verse 8: The sixteen phases of the moon go on waxing during the first fortnight ( of the lunal month); yet the moon is as it is, in itself a perfect whole. Verse10: In that way the vedas have called it "SAT" ( existence) to exclude "ASAT" ( non existence) and CHIT( knowledge) to end(confusion in being compared with) (ignorance) "JADA". Verse: 13 Thus, the word sat-chi-ananda as applied to Atman ( THE SELF) does not really represent it. It is to establish its differentiation from other attributes such as ASAT, JADA and DUKHA.
