Guest guest
Namaste. History of every nation is replete with accounts of large scale wars; wars caused due to misinterpretation of what constitutes what is dear. Peoples all over the world and in every age love to associate themselves with those who are dear to them; to associate themselves to wealth, power and fame. They get terribly hurt in the process, not able to comprehend what is it that is dear in the dear and yet wanting what is dear. Why ? It is the dearness in the dear to which one returns involuntarily again and again simply because it is dear. Dearness is beyond body, mind, wealth, fame, power; yet performs magical tricks to present itself within them. One tries to conquor the beautiful in its deceptive illusion and thinks that he succeeded. The 'dearness' smiles from above and plays even more tricks. --- "One holds another dear not out of love for the person; rather it is due to love of oneself(Atman) that one holds another dear" "One holds power dear not out of love for the power,; rather ..." "One holds the Vedas dear not out of ....; rather ... " "One holds beings dear not out of .......; rather ... " -- Yajnavalkya in BrhadAranyaka Upanishad Comments, questions, clarifications are welcome. With Love, Raghava
