Guest guest
ADMIN: maintaining the integrity of the List and remaining in focus namaste to all In the past two days, there were a few posts which do not deal with advaita but are angry outpourings of vitriolic emotion ridiculing the List and the recent decisions of the List moderators. It is quite interesting that these posts are made by people who have joined the List a few minutes before, specifically to make these postings (it seems). Certainly they do not have any committment to the List and what the List stands for, but they seem to be intent on deliberately disrupting the smooth running of the List and disturbing the contemplative environment of the List. There is no other purpose, it seems to me, for these out-of-scope posts except to intentionally create noise on the List and create a disruptive environment. Such actions will not be allowed to continue. Accordingly, I have taken the following extra-ordinary actions 1. putting some members (who joined in the past two days) under notice and changing their setting to "This member's postings are under moderation" or "This member cannot post". These members are informed of this action by private e-mail. I realize this is an unusual step but is necessary so that the regular members will not be provoked into flaming wars. 2. in order to prevent deliberate incursion to disturb peace (which has happened in the past two days), membership in the List is temporarily made restricted. That is, any new member wishing to join has to be approved by the team of moderators or a committee of membership that is to be formed. These actions are necessary in order to preserve the peacefulness and integrity of the List. I request the regular and serious members of the List not to respond to the flame-war baits. Let these baits be handled by the moderators. The List's objective is well-known and is very clear. It is advaita philosophy as taught by shri shankara. I will try to maintain a steady course towards that objective and see as much as possible that peace and serene environment so characteristic of this List will be preserved. I thank you for your understanding. Regards Gummuluru Murthy Chief Moderator -------------------------------
Guest guest
Dear Moderator, Some entities think freedom is anarchy. The list need not deal with such characters. -- Vis - "Gummuluru Murthy" <gmurthy <advaitin> Wednesday, March 28, 2001 7:49 PM ADMIN: maintaining the integrity of the List > > > > ADMIN: maintaining the integrity of the List and remaining > in focus > > > namaste to all > > > In the past two days, there were a few posts which do not > deal with advaita but are angry outpourings of vitriolic > emotion ridiculing the List and the recent decisions of > the List moderators. Guest guest
Shri Murthy- Thank You for taking these steps. To other members- It will also be slightly more effective for not allowing the continuing of these kinds of messages by just not responding. These "trouble makers" seem to thrive on "answering back". Therefore if we exercise some will power and ignore such postings, the moderators can also easily take care of the cleaning up and maybe can do so more efficiently. Their as well as our time is precious.
