He is supposed to be physically resting at Holy Pattamadai, the Birth Place of Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. Before going the Holy North India, His Holiness will be in Gujarat to encourage the earthquake sevaks on the 28th and 29th April. I have come to Japan three times before with Sri Guru Maharaj. The first time was in November of 1988. After the very grand Swami Sivananda Centenary Celebration in the year 1987 Sri Swamiji Maharaj was approached for a vist and program in Japan by Late Mr. Atsuhiko Kawabata. One day while the preparation for the trip to Japan was going on Sri Guru Maharaj asked me: Swamiji Maharaj: Ramaswarupji! Do you have a passport? Ramaswarup: No Swamiji Mahraj. SM: Why not, you make passport for so many why not for your self. RS: No need Swamiji Maharaj. SM: I want to take you to Japan with me. Swami Vimalanandaji is coming as usual. RS: Alright Swamiji Maharaj. I shall apply. In the application for Name of Father/husband I wrote "Swami Chidananda". When the police came to inquire, they asked me what is your real father's name. I told my real real father, mother and husband's name is Swami Chidananda. The police man approached Sri Swamiji Maharaj. SM: What is your real father's name? RS: Swami Chidananda. Twameva Mata ch Pita Twameva. SM: Please write Swami Chidananda as his father. SM: What is your mother's name. This you have to tell. RS: Lakshmi Devi Only in my passport Name of Father is Swami Chidananda. My first passport first entry was visit to Japan and my third (20 year) passport first entry also the visit to Japan. For a summary of Japan's history and background, visit e.g. this URL: http://www.asianinfo.org/asianinfo/japan/pro-history.htm Please note that the temporary website in Australia is now gone. It has been replaced by a more permanent site containing all the old content and more. Please visit it; new things will be posted from time to time. The URL is: http://f216.dkm.cz/ramaswarup/ Ms. Hiroko Nagahama of Tomanaga Yoga is at home as arranged by Mrs. Fumiko Oyama, as she is very busy in her work. Mrs. Maki Jungheim and Mrs. Fumiko Oyama Mataji came in the evening and we had very nice reception and discussion regarding my one month and one week program in Japan. We had nice Indian food cooked by Ms. Hiroko Mataji. She has been to Holy Sivananda Ashram four times and to India thirteen times. She knows Indian cooking. I told her and others that I could enjoy the Japanese food as I have done before. I have stayed in the Chinese's Buddhist Monasteries for a week and found no problem with Chinese food while in Hong Kong. It is very cold outside but the home is very warm, so rested well. 9th March. Got up early and Ms. Hiroko Mataji came in to make breakfast ready. I told Mr. Oyamaji that generally where I stay before breakfast we used to have a small morning Satsang. We had a very nice satsang, just the three of us and we read from the book "CHIDANANDA HOON" - the very nice pictorial book that was published by GIDLSC, Mumbai. There is a nameplate "SWAMI ROOM" in the room. Dear Hiroshi and I put the same on the inner door. Now the Home should become Swami Home. Ms. Fumiko went to her work; she is very busy in her interpretation and translation work. She has translated three books of Sri Gurudev and Sri Guru Maharaj. See her web site (Japanese language only) at: http://www.ceres.dti.ne.jp/~f-oyama/ Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi) Masuda and Mr. Naoki Takagaki came. We had repetition of the morning satsang. While Sri Takagaki was looking to my computer, Mr. Oyama, Mrs. Gurupriyaji and I had a very nice discussion for our Divine Life Society revival in Japan. His Holiness Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj has come to Japan more than three times. Our dear late Atshu Hiko Kawabata did all the arrangements and the DLS Branch functioned very nicely. Now we have to do something to revive the Branch in Japan. Mr. Oyamaji has retired from his work. He may able to do something but he has no experience in such things. After nice lunch and little rest we four went to a nearby super market. It is very cold. Visited a small Buddhist temple. On the way back home it started to snow. 10th March. Got up with a sore throat and nose cold. Did Jala neti and was feeling better. Mrs. Misaki and Mr. Masaki Nishio came and we had nice satsang. She and her husband helped with cooking and had lunch with us. In the afternoon we went to do a little shopping to get some books and post-cards and audiocassettes. We have came to Japan 3 times with Sri Guru Maharaj; I used to bring Japanese-made photo film rolls and audiocassettes from India. The first time, Sri Swami Vimalanandaji asked me why are you taking these things from India. I told him Swamiji it is very costly there. In those days in 1988 a cup of tea used to be Rs. 450. We saw a very big procession in protest of China to free Tibet. In the year 1959 on this day Tibet lost its independence. In the evening Ms. Masako Inoue San visited to discussion on the subject of her three days retreat on the 11th, 12th and on the 31st. We had a long discussion. 11th March. Mrs. Kiyomi Masuda Mataji came and we had again reading from the same. Cooking, Midday Prasad, rest and went to see KABUKI, local folk drama in the evening. Kabuki came into existence around 1600 with the arrival in Kyoto of a troupe of dancing girls led by Okuni formerly a shrine maiden. Their dances created a sensation and were labeled kabuki which at that time, meant unorthodox. They were succeeded by groups of adult men whose performance developed into Kabuki as it now exists. In the process, the original meaning of the word kabuki changed to become Ka (song) Bu (Dance) Ki (Skill). Men play the parts of girls and ladies. It was very nice traditional feeling mixed with modern art. After the show, it was nice of our Sri Gurupriya (Kiyomi) Mataji to came all the way to leave me at Mr. Oyama's home in the night. 14th March. Visited the local Japanese Happo Enn Garden through the School for girls from Sacred heart. The garden is superb. In the afternoon Mr. Oyama took me to the Ebisu tower. There is an Indian Ajanta restaurant on the 39th floor. The Indian waiters were very nice seeing a Swami they were very helpful in taking some nice photos from private windows. I met Mrs. Maki Jungheim in the Ebisu railway station and went with her to her Shanti Yoga School. Also met her family, including her sister who has just came back from Africa. She wanted me to help her in selecting and buying a Digital camera. We had a very nice selection. At home we took some photos and can take a small video also in this new camera. Met Mr. Aktar from Tibet who is working with her in her new company Shanti World. Good rest after nice dinner, in her Yoga School. 15th March. After breakfast met Mr. Gandhi, an Indian man who is having Lotus travel agent in Tokyo. He, Mrs. Maki Mataji and I went to Takatanobaba station where I met our dear Annapurn Hiroko Mataji and went with her to Ueno station to go to the Asakusa Buddhist temple. It is very surprising to see here before the temple a man pulling a cycle rickshaw. In Japanese it is called Jin-rikisha (Jin-human). The temple is SENSOUJI in Asakusa. Should Lord Buddha come back and see all these big big temples built in his name and with so many rituals, he will be surprised. After the visit and prayers we met very some nice young Bikshu (monks) and I wanted to know how they live and pray. They were very nice. We had our Pizza lunch in Italian restaurant. An Indian Swami having Italian Pizza with a Japanese Mataji in Tokyo Japan. This is international integration. Our dear Annapurna Mataji wanted to buy some Indian things for cooking. I was surprised to see her buying this entire India thing from a Japanese family store. Went to visit the Tokyo tower. This tower is a member of the world federation of great towers. The height is 333 meters. They have a website: http://www.tokyotower.co.jp It was very nice feeling to visit this high tower and look upon the world as witness consciousness. 17th March. There also we had a very informal satsang about prayers before food and how taking food is very essential as breathing and also a sacrifice not only an enjoyments. Visited Sri Ramakrishna Mission at Jushi with Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) Srimad Swami Medheshanandaji Maharaj was extra kind and we had a very nice time. At Prasad (Lunch) time Swamiji asked me about my further program. Coming to know I am going to China and Tibet he offered his own long warm coat for my use, which I have been using every since. Their web page is at: http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~vedanta/ Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) told that she has heard of Big Buddha of Kamakura but has not seen, I told I shall take you there. Ms Junko also wanted to come with us. Srimat Swami Medheshanandaji Maharaj came with us up to the local bus stop. Last time when Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj visited Sri Ramakrishna mission we went to have darshana of this Big Buddha of Kamakura. This bronze statue of amita Buddha was cast in the year 1252. In 1498, a tidal wave swept away the great temple of Buddha leaving the statue exposed to sunshine, rain, storms and snow. The statue is 13.35 meters tall and weighs 121 tons. I saw a very old Shintoism stone statue of three monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil, which Sri Mahatma Gandhi used to keep. 23rd March. In the afternoon Mys. She was there in the station to receive and we drove to the Japanese alps. Visiting the show clad moutain was a unique experience for me. One has to be there to experience it. After driving through many villages and fields we reached her home to be received by her very dear mother very lovingly. Even though we could not talk, still we could communicate. Her village is may be more than 120 years old. It was very cold but she had two heaters on in my room. 28th March. After morning breakfast table satsang, she took me to a Narakawa village which is more than 150 years old. It was raining on our way back home and it is very cold. After lunch she drove me to the Shirojiri Railway station to catch the Azusa Express back to Shinjuku, Tokyo. Back home by myself. 30th March. Yoga Saranagati group of Mr. Kiyoshi Naruse's. Father and mother of Mrs. Oyama came we had very nice celebration under the Cherry blossom tree. It is a very big festival for Japanese. Evening went to the nearby temple and burial ground to observe the cherry blossom festival. 2nd April. Got ready to leave the home for Tokyo central railway station with Mr. Oyama. Naked bath together reminded me of Kumbha Mela. Mr. Itsuhiro Mori and Mrs. Hiroko and their loving little son Mr. Kochan Mori, took us to their farm house in the village Aso in Kumamoto prefecture. My visit to Japan would have not have been successful without visiting the farm house. In the evening Mr. Jinen gave me a very nice treatment by Yoga massage. For his work to spread the peace message, he was awarded the Jawaharlal Nehru Award in the year 1987. He has made peace pagodas all over the world. At home resting and in the evening Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) came and we went to Shanti Yoga Club. We had a very nice big farewell dinner satsang with all friends.
