SUB: EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN, NEW WEBSITE

Blessed Divinity!

Dear Friends In the Divine!

8th March. I was supposed to send a letter from Hong

Kong, but the computer did not work. Missed the NW

flight and got in to a JAL flight, reached the Narita

New Tokyo Airport before time. Mr. Hiroshi Oyama was

there to receive me and we took the airport Limousine

to his home. It was very cold. I did not feel the

jetlag of the flight as I

was in Hong Kong.

His Holiness Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj is our

spiritual guiding light, so let us feel his Divine

Presence in our spiritual heart. He is supposed to be

physically resting at Holy Pattamadai, the Birth

Place of Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. Before

going the Holy North India, His Holiness will be in

Gujarat to encourage the earthquake sevaks on the 28th

and 29th April.

I have come to Japan three times before with Sri Guru

Maharaj. The first time was in November of 1988. After

the very grand Swami Sivananda Centenary Celebration

in the year 1987 Sri Swamiji Maharaj was approached

for a vist and program in Japan by Late Mr. Atsuhiko

Kawabata.

One day while the preparation for the trip to Japan

was going on Sri Guru Maharaj asked me:

Swamiji Maharaj: Ramaswarupji! Do you have a passport?

Ramaswarup: No Swamiji Mahraj.

SM: Why not, you make passport for so many why not for

your self.

RS: No need Swamiji Maharaj.

SM: I want to take you to Japan with me. Swami

Vimalanandaji is coming as usual.

RS: Alright Swamiji Maharaj. I shall apply.

In the application for Name of Father/husband I wrote

"Swami Chidananda". When the police came to inquire,

they asked me what is your real father's name. I told

my real real father, mother and husband's name is

Swami Chidananda. The police man approached Sri

Swamiji Maharaj.

SM: What is your real father's name?

RS: Swami Chidananda. Twameva Mata ch Pita Twameva.

SM: Please write Swami Chidananda as his father.

SM: What is your mother's name. This you have to tell.

RS: Lakshmi Devi

Only in my passport Name of Father is Swami

Chidananda.

My first passport first entry was visit to Japan and

my third (20 year) passport first entry also the visit

to Japan.

Ms. Hiroko Nagahama of Tomanaga Yoga is at home as

arranged by Mrs. Fumiko Oyama, as she is very busy in

her work. Mrs. Maki Jungheim and Mrs. Fumiko Oyama

Mataji came in the evening and we had very nice

reception and discussion regarding my one month and

one week program in Japan. We had nice Indian food

cooked by Ms. Hiroko Mataji. She has been to Holy

Sivananda Ashram four times and to India thirteen

times. She knows Indian cooking. I told her and others

that I could enjoy the Japanese food as I have done

before. I have stayed in the Chinese's Buddhist

Monasteries for a week and found no problem with

Chinese food while in Hong Kong.

It is very cold outside but the home is very warm, so

rested well.

9th March. Got up early and Ms. Hiroko Mataji came in

to make breakfast ready. I told Mr. Oyamaji that

generally where I stay before breakfast we used to

have a small morning Satsang. We had a very nice

satsang, just the three of us and we read from the

book "CHIDANANDA HOON" - the very nice pictorial book

that was published by GIDLSC, Mumbai.

There is a nameplate "SWAMI ROOM" in the room. Dear

Hiroshi and I put the same on the inner door. Now the

Home should become Swami Home. Ms. Fumiko went to her

work; she is very busy in her interpretation and

translation work. She has translated three books of

Sri Gurudev and Sri Guru Maharaj. See her web site

(Japanese language only) at:

http://www.ceres.dti.ne.jp/~f-oyama/

Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi) Masuda and Mr. Naoki Takagaki

came. We had repetition of the morning satsang. While

Sri Takagaki was looking to my computer, Mr. Oyama,

Mrs. Gurupriyaji and I had a very nice discussion for

our Divine Life Society revival in Japan. His Holiness

Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj has come to Japan more than

three times.

Our dear late Atshu Hiko Kawabata did all the

arrangements and the DLS Branch functioned very

nicely. Now we have to do something to revive the

Branch in Japan. Mr. Oyamaji has retired from his

work. He may able to do something but he has no

experience in such things. After nice lunch and little

rest we four went to a nearby super market. It is very

cold. Visited a small Buddhist temple. On the way back

home it started to snow.

10th March. Got up with a sore throat and nose cold.

Did Jala neti and was feeling better. Mrs. Misaki and

Mr. Masaki Nishio came and we had nice satsang. She

and her husband helped with cooking and had lunch with

us. In the afternoon we went to do a little shopping

to get some books and post-cards and audiocassettes.

We have came to Japan 3 times with Sri Guru Maharaj; I

used to bring Japanese-made photo film rolls and

audiocassettes from India. The first time, Sri Swami

Vimalanandaji asked me why are you taking these things

from India. I told him Swamiji it is very costly

there. In those days in 1988 a cup of tea used to be

Rs. 450.

We saw a very big procession in protest of China to

free Tibet. In the year 1959 on this day Tibet lost

its independence.

In the evening Ms. Masako Inoue San visited to

discussion on the subject of her three days retreat on

the 11th, 12th and on the 31st. We had a long

discussion.

11th March. Preparation for the retreat with the

group of Ms. Masako Inoue in Yonaiya

13th March, Morning satsang from the Chidananda Hun.

Mrs. Kiyomi Masuda Mataji came and we had again

reading from the same. Cooking, Midday Prasad, rest

and went to see KABUKI, local folk drama in the

evening. Kabuki came into existence around 1600 with

the arrival in Kyoto of a troupe of dancing girls led

by Okuni formerly a shrine maiden. Their dances

created a sensation and were labeled kabuki which at

that time, meant unorthodox. They were succeeded by

groups of adult men whose performance developed into

Kabuki as it now exists. In the process, the original

meaning of the word kabuki changed to become Ka (song)

Bu (Dance) Ki (Skill). Men play the parts of girls and

ladies. It was very nice traditional feeling mixed

with modern art. After the show, it was nice of our

Sri Gurupriya (Kiyomi) Mataji to came all the way

to leave me at Mr. Oyama's home in the night.

14th March. Visited the local Japanese Happo Enn

Garden through the School for girls from Sacred heart.

The garden is superb. In the afternoon Mr. Oyama took

me to the Ebisu tower. There is an Indian Ajanta

restaurant on the 39th floor. The Indian waiters were

very nice seeing a Swami they were very helpful in

taking some nice photos from private windows. I met

Mrs. Maki Jungheim in the Ebisu railway station

and went with her to her Shanti Yoga School. Also met

her family, including her sister who has just came

back from Africa. She wanted me to help her in

selecting and buying a Digital camera. We had a very

nice selection. At home we took some photos and can

take a small video also in this new camera. Met Mr.

Aktar from Tibet who is working with her in her new

company Shanti World. Good rest after nice dinner, in

her Yoga School.

15th March. After breakfast met Mr. Gandhi, an Indian

man who is having Lotus travel agent in Tokyo. He,

Mrs. Maki Mataji and I went to Takatanobaba station

where I met our dear Annapurn Hiroko Mataji and

went with her to Ueno station to go to the Asakusa

Buddhist temple. It is very surprising to see here

before the temple a man pulling a cycle

rickshaw. In Japanese it is called Jin-rikisha

(Jin-human). The temple is SENSOUJI in Asakusa. Should

Lord Buddha come back and see all these big big

temples built in his name and with so many rituals, he

will be surprised. After the visit and prayers we met

very some nice young Bikshu (monks) and I wanted to

know how they live and pray. They were very nice. We

had our Pizza lunch in Italian restaurant. An Indian

Swami having Italian Pizza with a Japanese Mataji in

Tokyo

Japan. This is international integration.

Our dear Annapurna Mataji wanted to buy some Indian

things for cooking. I was surprised to see her buying

this entire India thing from a Japanese family store.

Went to visit the Tokyo tower. This tower is a member

of the world federation of great towers. The height is

333 meters. They have a website:

http://www.tokyotower.co.jp

It was very nice feeling to visit this high tower and

look upon the world as witness consciousness.

17th March. Satsang with Mr. Genshun Ueno and his

yoga students. Mrs. Kiyomi Masuda (Gurupriya Mataji)

came home and took me there.

14.00 reception

15.00-15.15 Jai Ganesh Kirtan by Linda Kwabata (tape)

& Mr. Ueno 15.00-15.30 Indian Bharata Natyam by Ms.

Mako Satomi

15.45-17.15 Satsang by Sri Swami Ramaswarupanda,

Lecture, Meditation and Q and A

(Requests for inclusion in the lecture)

1. How Gurudev Sri Swami Sivananda started Sivananda

Ashram and His ideas.

2. Current ashram activities

3. What type of spiritual sadhana the resident Swamis

and sadhaks do to increase their spirituality

4. Necessity of Yoga in the modern world?

After the satsang we all went to an Indian restaurant

Indus. There also we had a very informal satsang about

prayers before food and how taking food is very

essential as breathing and also a sacrifice not

only an enjoyments. The above topic gave a mental tour

of the past and present of Sivananda Ashram. The

Indian Bharat Natyam was very nice.

20th March. Satsang at Mr. Tahara Hodo

21st March. Visited Sri Ramakrishna Mission at Jushi

with Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) Srimad Swami

Medheshanandaji Maharaj was extra kind and we had a

very nice time. At Prasad (Lunch) time Swamiji

asked me about my further program. Coming to know I am

going to China and Tibet he offered his own long warm

coat for my use, which I have been using every since.

Their web page is at:

http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~vedanta/

Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) told that she has heard

of Big Buddha of Kamakura but has not seen, I told I

shall take you there. Ms Junko also wanted to come

with us. Srimat Swami Medheshanandaji Maharaj came

with us up to the local bus stop. Last time when Sri

Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj visited Sri Ramakrishna

mission we went to have darshana of this Big Buddha of

Kamakura. This bronze statue of amita Buddha was cast

in the year 1252. In 1498, a tidal wave swept away the

great temple of Buddha leaving the statue exposed to

sunshine, rain, storms and snow. The statue is 13.35

meters tall and weighs 121 tons.

I saw a very old Shintoism stone statue of three

monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil,

which Sri Mahatma Gandhi used to keep.

23rd March. In the afternoon Mys. Gurupriya (Kiyomi

Masuda) came to take me to Mrs. Junko Tomanaga

Mataji’s home. She was a physical cultures but Yoga

Asana helped her a lot. She has been teaching in her

own Tomonaga Yoga Insitute for a long time. Sri Swami

Chidanandaji Maharaj has visited her Institute.

24th March. Afternoon Lecture in the Tomanaga Yoga

Institute regarding How the soul is different from the

body and the five sheaths. Mrs. Puja Serdeshmukhji and

her husband Dr. Chandrakant Sardeshmikhji came

to vist at home, we had nice discussion regarding

music as therapy.

His brother Dr. Sadananda Sardesmukh whom I meet in

the Brisbane airport is his elder brother.

25th March. Afternoon lecture regarding CHAKRAS.

After the Satsang went to Dr. Chandrakant

Sardeshmikhji and Mrs. Puja Sardesmukhji for dinner

Prasad. His web site is:

http://www.darshanam.com

26th March. Supposed to go to the Takaosan Mountain

monastery but it is raining, so stayed at home and

talked to the Yoga instructors in the Tomonaga Yoga

Institute.

27th March. Ms. Hiroko Nagahama Mataji took me to

Shinjuku station to take the Azusa Express train to

Shiojiri station in Nagano prefecture. It was 3 hours

journey. Ms. Naoko Osawa Mataji was a great help when

Sri Guru Maharaj came in the year 1988. Other time we

could not see her. Now I got her telephone number from

Swami Medheshanandaji Maharaj. She was there in the

station to receive and we drove to the Japanese alps.

Visiting the show clad moutain was a unique experience

for me. One has to be there to experience it. After

driving through many villages and fields we reached

her home to be received by her very dear mother very

lovingly. Even though we could not talk, still

we could communicate. Her village is may be more than

120 years old. It was very cold but she had two

heaters on in my room.

28th March. After morning breakfast table satsang,

she took me to a Narakawa village which is more than

150 years old. It was raining on our way back home and

it is very cold. After lunch she drove me to the

Shirojiri Railway station to catch the Azusa Express

back to Shinjuku, Tokyo. Back home by myself.

Naruse's. SATSANG AT EBISU.

31st March. Satsang at Ms. Masako Inoue.

1ST April. I was alone at home as Fumiko Mataji had

gone to her parent's home on her weekly visit. After

morning sadhana and breakfast, went for a walk. The

weather is very fine and the cherry blossom is

blooming. The garden next to the building is getting

ready for the Cherry blossom festival. Father and

mother of Mrs. Oyama came we had very nice celebration

under the Cherry blossom tree. It is a very big

festival for Japanese.

Evening went to the nearby temple and burial ground to

observe the cherry blossom festival.

2nd April. Got ready to leave the home for Tokyo

central railway station with Mr. Oyama. There was a

small accident on the Railway platform. The staff was

giving money back to the passenger as the train is

getting late. But the train started to move. At the

Tokyo central railway station boarded the Shinkansen

(bullet train). I am going to Sin (new) Osaka. The

distance is 553 km. The train left at 9.00 a.m. and

arrived at 11.30.

Waiting at the railway way station was Mr. Kumagai

Sensei with Mr. Yamaguchiji and Mrs. Kambayashi. They

took me to the main street called Midoo Street of

Osaka. We went to Doutobori Street which very

famous for food and drink. It was a very nice long

trip. This showed us the culture of one such street.

After lunch at one Indian resturant "Meera" we went to

the Osaka Castle. In the evening satsang at YuYu

Hall arranged by Mr. Oasa.

Came to Sri Siva Ashram Ujishi City. Mrs. Satoko

Okumura and Ms. Tomi Terae. Remembered many incidents

from Sri Swami Chidaandaji’s visit to this Ashram.

Shrine. Tea with her at Le Fujita.

Dharma? There was very nice discussion on this

subject. Mrs J. Murata and many others were there for

this informal Satsang.

4th April. By taxi and train to Yakushiji temple at

Nishino Kyo, met Ms. Yoko Ohnishi, Ms. Yukari Uchida,

Mr. Yamaguchi and Mr. Akira Fujisawa. Visited the

temple and tea ceremony. Went through a Shinto

Shrine. Went to the Sanshoji temple where the last

remains for the family are kept. Prayers for the late

Michiko San, sister of Fujisawa. Very nice lunch there

arranged by Ms. Yoko Ohnishi, Ms. Yukari Uchida.

Later visited the famous temples at Nara. Read more

about them at:

http://www.arthistory.sbc.edu/sacredplaces/nara.html

home and back to Siva Ashram for evening informal

satsang with Mr. Morata San and others.

railway station to catch the shinkenshai (bullet)

train to Hiroshima. Mr. Kumagai, Mrs. Fumiko Kato her

daughter Mrs. Sato San. Mrs. Jadako Segawa and

Mrs. Ihara came to the station to see me. Last time

when Sri Swamiji Maharaj was there in Siva Ashram Mr.

and Mrs. Ihara used to help. On the day of departure

at the station the train was just to leave, all

luggages have not come. The train door was just

closing; Mrs. Ihara did not allow the train door to be

closed by standing in the middle until Sri Swamiji

Maharaj got in to the train. They were all standing

at the platform while I was praying at the door until

train door closed. This train is called Nozomi-3. At

Hiroshima Mr. Mikio Fujihara and Ms. Fukiko Tanaka of

Good Will Guide came to help me as arranged by Mr.

Oyama San. They gave me a very nice guided tour. I got

much e-mail asking me whether I am all right or not,

as there was an earthquake in Hiroshima, Japan, a few

days ago. Upon my inquire Ms. Fukiko Tanaka told that

the earthquake was very good shake to all the

buildings but nothing more has happened excect two

person have died and a few got endured.

Hiro means wide, shima is island. So this is very Wide

Island. This is the 10th biggest city of Japan. In the

World War II on 1945, August 6th morning USA put the

first Atom Bomb on Hiroshima. In those days, Hiroshima

was the defense headquarters for Japan. Please visit

the website of Hiroshima:

http://www.tourism.city.hiroshima.jp/english

After a very nice Indian Lunch in restaurant "NANAK"

we went to visit the castle of Hiroshima but it is

closed due to the recent small earthquake. Rested

under a Sakura tree before they took me to the

railway station to catch the Nozomi15 bullet train to

Patanaji’s Yoga Sutra. After breakfast went for a nice

walk to the near by temple. In the after noon Sri

Linda Ram Mataji came from Oita. We had a very nice

long heartfelt sharing. Three times Sri Swamiji

Maharaj has come to Japan. The first time was in the

year 1988. Mr. Atsu Hiko Kawabata and Mrs. Linda

Kawabata used to be the host. They had the Divine Life

Society branch in their home. In that year while in

Mrs. Fumiko Oyama’s home, Tokyo, Sri Guru Maharaj

wanted to have a clean shave. Mr. Jinen requested one

his student to shave with Mr. Jinen’s help. It

was on the 22-11-88. They were showing me all the

photos. One day in the retreat Mr. Jinen gave Swamiji

Maharaj a nice body massage also.

In the evening we had a satsang regarding the meaning

of Kayenavacha and Sahanavavatu, in the Yoga hall.

7th April. After morning breakfast, we drove from

Usuki to Yufuin. Left 7.20a.m. and arrived at 9.00a.m.

It is in the mountain of Yufudake. Maria Convent.

Last time in 1995, Sri Guru Maharaj came here and we

had a big retreat here. In those days there were

portable phones. Sri Guru Maharaj used to speak to Sri

Swami Krishnanandaji Maharaj at Guru Niwas. Sri

Krishna from Belgium came. Sri Rajeswari Mataji and

Sri Karunaprema Mataji came for this retreat from USA.

There were nearly 200 participants with many children.

Many more memories came back to the mind. The first

satsang started at 10.00 am.

evening we continued the Yoga Sutra of Yama from 7.30

p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

Twameva Mata, Kayaena vach and Sarvadharman Gita 65

Sloka 18 Ch. Group photographs. There are nearly

35 participants. Evening continue the talk on Patanjli

Yoga sutra of Niyama and farewell satsang and we left

for home at Usuki

9th April. Morning meditation and small morning

message Unity of all things. Visited Mrs. Kaoru More

and her friends, 15 persons in her Yoga Centre. Had

small stasang regarding the retreat and their

reaction. Story of Madalash. We had our nice midday

lunch prasad with them. After lunch left for Mr.

Takeshi Koyama. He runs a very nice restaurant cum

small hotel. I was happy to see his son Mr. Shin

Koyama. He was a young boy when Sri Swamiji Maharaj

coame to Japan in the year 1988. He showed me his scar

mark in his head. He met with a accident while trying

to save a puppy from falling down. He become

unconsious and was hospitalised. Mr. Koyam got this

news when he was with Swamiji Maharaj in a satsang.

Sri Swamiji Maharaj blessed and prayed for the early

recovery of the child Shin. He recovered very quickly,

beyond the doctors' expections. He was showing me the

photos that were taken at Guru Niwas when he and his

family came to thank Sri Swamiji Maharaj. After nice

cup of tea and French sweets we drove to a very nice

fountain and went for nice spa bath. It is my first

spa bath. When ever we came to Oita, I was told that

many people come from all over world to this Island to

take healthy spring hot water spa bath but I had no

time/no wish leaving the services of the Master.

Naked bath together reminded me of Kumbha Mela.

Mr. Itsuhiro Mori and Mrs. Hiroko and their loving

little son Mr. Kochan Mori, took us to their farm

house in the village Aso in Kumamoto prefecture. My

visit to Japan would have not have been successful

without visiting the farm house. In the evening Mr.

Jinen gave me a very nice treatment by Yoga massage.

After a very nice Japanese dinner we visited Sivananda

Ashram by VCD.

10th April. Went for a long nice walk in to the

mountain and paddy fields, it all reminded me of

Orissa paddy fields and Garhwal Mountains. Home is

coming nearer. After meditation we had our Japanese

breakfast. I have been enjoying the Japanese food all

the while.

Mr. Jinen has been telling me about Sri Fuji Guruji,

who passed away in the 1985. For his work to spread

the peace message, he was awarded the Jawaharlal Nehru

Award in the year 1987. He has made peace pagodas

all over the world. There is one in Orissa called

Dhaulagiri, from Bhubaneswar when one goes to Puri

this can be seen on the right. There is another one at

Leh in Laddakh. We went to his birth place Aso

village and Samadhi Temple "Nippozan Myohoji Tanjoji".

The Nun sakamoto Anjusan was very nice showing us all

round and telling us about Sri Fuji Guruji. I told her

that I had his Darshan in 1972 at Cuttack when we had

All India Divine Life Society Coneference. He

came to give a talk. He used to Chant a mantra "NAMOYU

HOREGEKYO" The whole valley is full of very nice

farmland with small villages in between.

After another nice traditional Japanese village lunch

we came back to Tokyo by flight with Mr. Oyama. Met

and had nice talk with Dear and Rev. linda Mataji at

the Oita airport.

11th April. Mrs. Makiko Sato wanted to take me

somewhere for sight seing but I told her this time I

am not in a mood to go anywhere but if you want to

talk to me I shall make time to see you. We went to

the Arisugawa memorial park. She is following the

Ayurveda from Dr. Sadananda Sardesmukh. We had

discussion on matter, thought and vibration. She

presented me with a book “The Message From The Water

Is Telling Us To Take A Look At Ourselves”. This is a

very nice book which tells us how the holy water of

different religions is nothing but beautful thought

patterns.

12th April. At home resting and in the evening Mrs.

Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) came and we went to Shanti

Yoga Club. We had a very nice big farewell dinner

satsang with all friends. In the end of the dinner I

expressed my gratitude to Mrs. Fumiko Oyama San, who

has sponsered my program to Japan and arranged all

lectures and retreats. I am also grateful to Mr.

Hiroshi Oyama San for all his tireless work and

accopanying me to Kyushu Island and doing the

interpreting my talks, even though it is not his job.

Ms. Hiroko Nagahama San Mataji has been my Aannapurna

Devij and Mrs. Gurupriya (Kiyomi Masuda) has been my

walking mother taking me every where. I am greatful to

the Lord Almighty in all of them.

13th April. Left Japan by the evening flight for Hong

Kong.

I am not able to reply individually to all my friends

who have been sending mails as I have lost all data

from the computer. I have the data on a CD but I am

not able to retrieve the same. My operating system is

Windows 98 and the e-mail program is Outlook Express.

Any help in this regard is welcome. I may be excused

for this negligence of mine.

My Program is as follows:
