Guest guest
Did Hinduism pick up or drop off stuff in becoming advaita vedanta as a result of Buddha's appearance and teaching? Somehow I got this thought that Hinduism was sort of very colorful, perhaps overly, and then Buddha got enlightened and he was clear and a lot of people got cleared up. Hinduism and God or gods were dropped... But then, somehow Buddhism disappeared and people became Hindus again. But, perhaps the Hinduism they picked back up was somewhat cleared up... ie... they got a lot of good stuff from Buddhism and simplified everything... I actually wonder if in Shaivite traditions you can't just change the Shiva to Buddha and have the same thing... or.... did they take Buddhism and take out Buddha and rather install Shiva? Are they a lot different or is Shaivism just a Hinduized Buddhism? Is it just a way to deify or add God (Shiva) into an atheist (Buddhist) religion? I have been wondering about this... I was raised Roman Catholic and got into Vedanta, but certainly many aspects of the Buddhism of Zen look similar to me... ie... loss of ego... non-dual etc. thanks, Paul
