Guest guest
Six Lighted Windows: book by Swami Yogeshananda (available thro the Vedanta Press California ISBN 0 87481-410-3) After a long search I managed to get hold of this book from the library at the Vedanta Centre in London. (I had been asking for it - nobody knew if the Centre had a copy - then suddenly I saw it lying on the shelf in the library this Sunday). It is a grand read. I feel privileged that our list gets input from someone like Swami Yogeshananda - the author of this book. The book contains 'Memories of Swamis in the West'. The part that I found specially interesting relates to the encounters with Swami Ashokananda. Spirituality becomes very tangible. Nothing to do with past prophets who lived thousands of years ago. ... Spirituality becomes personalised, living and interacting with us here and now. I had read that Swami Ashokananda became thrilled when he first saw the photograph of Sri Ramakrishna in samadhi. That indrawn look of seeing God within comes through very strongly. I looked at the photograph of Swami Ashokananda in the book and what do I see? It is the same look - not looking outwards but smiling due to the union within....grand stuff...disciple cast in the mould of his master! We are a fortunate bunch to get exposure to so much raw spirituality. jay Vivekananda Centre London
