Namaskaaram !

I have been following these threads with great interest. I could not

resist sharing something that would probably bring some humor to this

serious discussion.

This is story of a snake and a sage. I don't remember where i read it,

i think it was in Vedanta Treatise by Shri Parthasarathy.

Anyway, there was this snake that used to terrorise everyone in the

village. One day, a learned sage was passing through the village and

the snake tried to bite him. On seeing the sage, the snake stopped at

his feet and begged forgiveness. The sage told the snake to love all

living beings and to be at peace, etc.

After a few days when the sage was returning through the village, he

saw that the snake was badly injured and struggling to stay alive.

When he asked the snake, it replied that it was only following his

advise and that it tried to show it's love and affection to the

village folks. The sage said, "You silly snake. I only told you to

love other living beings and not to show your love. You could have

just hissed and protected yourself by just scaring them away."

Best regards

Venkatesh

Namaste,

A similar parable was told by Sri Ramakrishna.
