Guest guest
A very interesting study of "faith" from a Vedic perspective Indeed, faith (shraddhaa) is the fundamental factor of all religions, there doesn't exist any religion without faith. Thus in Rig-veda (10-151-1) the Great Seer Rishika Shraddhaa Kaamaayani declares, "Indeed it is faith which makes the fire to burn (in the Yajnas), it is indeed faith by which havish (Ghee etc.) is poured in to the fire; therefore I declare by my words that faith is on the top of religion". Shri Krishna, again a great seer of Rig-veda, makes it more explicit in his Gita in the last shloka of the 17th chapter, "what is sacrificed, given as gift, performed as penance, or done, without faith, O Arjuna! is said to be "asat"; it is neither effective here nor hereafter". However, there is a great difference between "shraddha" (faith) and "andha-vishvasa" (blind faith). The first exists in something true, and the latter exist is something untrue. The Brahmana Scriptures make it very clear, "the creator established faith in truth". The Upanishads also tell us very clearly, "Whatever is performed with faith, knowledge and with knowing its esoteric significance, is the most effective" (yadeva vidyaya karoti shraddhayopanishada tadeva viryavattaram bhavati). This fundamental truth was revealed by the Supreme Lord (Vishnua in Rig-veda) in the beginning of the creation to Rishika Shraddhaa Kaamaayani, for the prosperity and well-being of humanity. Thus we should follow this principle of Shraddha, which is the only way for our spiritual upliftment, at least till we are not mature enough. Let us be thankful to her (Rishika Kaamaayani) that she revealed this truth for our elevation and spiritual nourishment. NOW LET ME TELL YOU ALL SOMETHING VERY VERY INTERESTING: DO YOU KNOW WHEN "JNANA " (knowledge) "BHAKTI " (faith, devotion) AND "KARMA" (action) CAME IN TO EXISTANCE? Let me tell it to you. Jnana is eternal, Nitya, thus there is no question of its coming in to existence, as pure knowledge is the Supreme Lord, and he was always existing, thus Jnana is eternal. Now coming to Shraddha (faith, devotion; as the word Bhakti doesn't exist in the Vedas and Upanishads, thus Shraddha there means devotion and faith), faith came in to existence before the process of creation started. Prashna Upanishad (the 6th question) makes it explicit that when the Supreme Lord had the desire to create this Universe, he first created Prana and then from Prana, came "faith", and from faith space, wind, light, water and earth came into existence. In the end, Karma came in to existence when the first human took its form. This is made clear in the 3rd chapter of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. Isn't it interesting to know this? We all are created from faith! Thus have faith, in, at least, what the Vedas tell us! In the service of the Vedas, Siddhartha
Guest guest
Namaste, This is a quote from Sw. Vivekananda's address to the Parliament of Religions, 1893: ananta <sarada 'The present convention, which is one of the most august assemblies ever held, is in itself a vindication, a declaration to the world, of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita: "Whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to Me."
