Guest guest
Greetings Sri Gummuluru, See, you are also taking interest in matters that pertain to this world of name and from . Actually I was quite pleased to see such important questions being discussed. It is my conviction that understanding fundamental concepts like wake-up state, dream state, deep sleep, Pleasure, Pain, Paapa, Punya etc. is critical to obtaining insights into the day to day problems of life and their cure. Dream state is relatively easy to understand. The Jiva is experiencing whatever is projected on the screen of its mind. There is very little (if any at all) identification with body and freedom of action in the dream state. The wake-up state is much more complex. That there is a strong identification with the body in this state and we seem to have freedom to act is quite obvious. The less obvious facts are: (i) We have fleeting glimpses of the union with "Self" or the 4-th state, while in the Wake-up state, and (ii) We very often slip into something very very similar to dream state. In fact I would say that quite often we slip into the dream state, these slips are often triggered by what we perceive in the wake-up state and body awareness. I think I have read something similar in one of Shankara's works. If one is to accept the above description of the wake-up state, quite clearly, the Karma of dream state does carry into wake-up state, since the former is also a part of the latter. Actually Patanjali has devoted a rather mystic sutra to the dream state (1.38), where he hints at rather fantastic possibilities if one could correlate the dream sleep state to the Wake-up state.
