Guest guest
Namaste. 'Kanyakumari' is located in Southern India where the three oceans Bay-of-Bengal, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Sea meet. The most interesting tourist attraction is the rising Sun. It is known for the unique sight of a gradual rising Sun. The gradual morning rising Sun seems to resonate with his words, "Do you feel the strength growing in you?" I was in Kanyakumari three weeks ago. Among other things, I was also interested to observe, if possible, why this place offered a unique experience to Swami Vivekananda. One may recall that it was here that the Swamiji's mission became clear or known to him. Here are some observations. The sea is at a good depth near the shore and waves from the three oceans are powerful and big. Sometimes the waves bang against rocks and a layer-like-cloud of water emerges and floats in the strong air-currents offering a beautiful sight. The roar of waves at the top though chaotic and beautiful; everything is still and calm just underneath the waves - like the roar of senses outside and the calm Brahman inside. At the big rock now known after his name, there is also the footprint of Goddess Kanyakumari where she is believed to have performed 'Tapas'. By the way, even this day, going to to the rock from the shore is a thrilling experience. While going on boat to the rock, even a big motor boat of today sways in different directions in synchronism with the strong waves and air currents causing anxiety to some. I wonder how the Swamiji reached the rock on three consecutive days. The swamiji travelled on foot all over India. Perhaps among other things such as experiencing the common pulse of the peoples, he was also looking for Jnanis; perhaps he was looking for lost documents; perhaps many other. I don't know. But one thing is sure that, here he reached a point here where he could not go on foot any further and had to make a return trip. At a juncture where he now possessed the necessary experience, he perhaps thought that this is a good time to summare all his experience. The next question, 'what is the mission?' Well, this post is about a possible 'why'.
