Guest guest
namaste. In aparokshAnubhUti, there is this statement by shri shankara. "... ajnAni-jana bodhArtham prArabdhaM vakti vai shrutiH" (verse 97, line 2), meaning " the scripture talks about prArabdha, for the easy understanding of the ignorant." I wonder if knowledgeable members can direct me to the shruti statement(s) where prArabdha is mentioned. Thanks very much. Thanks shri sunder-ji for the references. While they are very valuable, I am wondering: does this mean that there is no reference to prArabdha in the principal upanishads? I mean by principal upanishads, the ones on which shri shankara wrote bhAShyA-s, like the br^ihadAraNyaka etc. With respect, the timing, authenticity and the tradition associated to the upanishads mentioned above is not the same as that of Isha, Kena, prashna, kaTha, Chandogya, Brihad. etc. I thought shri shankara was referring to one of the traditional upanishads when he said that verse in aparokshAnubhUti. Thanks for pointing out the resource location and the FIND function. Regards Gummuluru Murthy ----
Guest guest
Namaste Murty Garu, The question was almost anticipated! Brahmasutra II:iii:32 and IV:i:15 [in fact the whole 4th adhyaaya] may hold the answer. Though the word praarabdha is not used, the idea is amply stated, and references to the major upanishads are made in Shankarabhashya. [it is worth noting that verses 100-135 in aparokshaanubhuuti are verbatim from tejobindu upanishad!] Regards, sunder advaitin, Gummuluru Murthy <gmurthy@m...> wrote: > > Thanks shri sunder-ji for the references.
