When a person is in need of guidance about a problem he faces, requiring proper solution or when he feels his fond desire is to be fulfilled, whom should he approach? No other human being will be of any help as each one must be harbouring some similar hidden discontent or grief. The only unfailing source is God and one has to submit his plea before Him. However, so long as he is in this world, the tendency will be to go to some one. In such a case, he has to be careful about the other man's capacity to extend the needed protection. It will be extremely unwise to approach one who is inferior in status to him. Such an ordinary man will not be of any use, he will pose as if he is sympathetic but inwardly he will be happy that this person was suffering and may even spread the rumour that the latter is in a quandary and he will derive thereby a vicarious pleasure. On the other hand, a friend, who is equal to him in age and other respects cannot render any assistance as he too may sail in the same boat pleading his helplessness. Under such circumstances he has only one alternative, to go to those who are generous, wise, considerate, seasoned in tackling worldly problems and who above all have the wherewithal and inclination to spare or to share his anguish without any hesitation. An emperor who was administering his country to the best of his ability, keeping every citizen happy by zealously following the rules of righteousness and never violating Truth and justice had only one sorrow that there was no child to succeed him, and to continue the noble norms that he had been pursuing. So he went to his religious guide and urged him to find a solution. With his enormous spiritual power, the sage, Vasishta, could foresee how the Lord was already preparing to visit the world as a human being in response to the appeal from noble souls who were being tortured by evil elements preventing them from continuing their religious austerities in a peaceful manner. Vasishta also meditated and foresaw how the Lord was getting ready to be born as the son of Emperor Dasaratha, as he was the embodiment of Truth, virtue and justice. The family mentor suggested that the latter conduct a special rite invoking Divine grace. Thus God took His incarnation to safeguard the interests of the pious, uphold righteousness and re-establish Moral Law, said Sri Sukhi Sivam in a lecture on Kamba Ramayanam. Saint Arunagirinathar provides a list of those from heaven who accompanied the Lord.
