Guest guest
Hello, Can somebody throw light on what exactly comprises 'kutarka' (bad logic) or 'shushhka tarka'(dry logic)? This phrase seems to be used many a time, often followed by dicta on how shAstra should not be lost sight of while using logic. But how can one ascertain the import of shruti-s without using rigorous logic, thereby introducing circularity? I searched the archives for the same, but could not find any answer to this question. Guest guest
Namaste, Message # 9772 gives the definition briefly. For more extended discussion of the topic, the following URLs on Nyaya Philosophy may be helpful: http://www.jiva.org/culture/Metaphysics_Center/nyaya.htm http://www.hinduism.co.za/philosop.htm#The Nyaya http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/sahasra/sloka24.html [This is interesting, as the name in Vishnu Sahasra-Nama is Nyaya, and the commentary follows.] Regards, Sunder advaitin, Nomadeva Sharma <nomadeva> wrote: > Hello, > > Can somebody throw light on what exactly comprises > 'kutarka' (bad logic) or 'shushhka tarka'(dry logic)? > This phrase seems to be used many a time, often > followed by dicta on how shAstra should not be lost > sight of while using logic. Guest guest
Dear Nomadeva, I wish i understood the terms u mention such as shruti's. I see myself to be a in depth of though, a though not guided by logic, but intuition, which in the end may only be an illusion. I feel as if logic is merely another judgement and interpretation, bound by pre-existing patterns and inherent belief systems. Oncebbbb a person is given a perspective he/she is limited to seeing only through that one point of reference. It is like a hiker who sits in one spot on the mountain, he can only see so much. We live in a flux of energy which our mind can not understand, thus we should move with the flux in order to preserve harmony and intuition. Logic is for those who want to be right at the end of the equation, and truthfully that can be easly done if one has already accepted cetrain laws, premises etc to be the constraints of the thought formula. Like the sacred text suggests, freedom is the beginning, the middle and the end, thus a person true liberty will be in the ability to surrender and dance with the transition, moment to moment Daniel _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
