Guest guest
Dear Frankji, HarihOm! Pranams! WITH ALL DUE RESPECTS: Since you are making a point saying "as Advaitins" I wanted to disagree. I would humbly suggest that your inquiry in to the truth behind the world history, as I understand from your letter, needs to be checked. 1. Any given society will have leaders who are either selected or elected, who are supposed to take decissions on behalf of majority of the people. May I also point out that there will always be dissent in the opinion? Some of the states policies need not be made public, for the sake of public, because public is always split in its opinion (who knows what the next door nighbour is thinking). So I personally believe US government is right in not revealing everything to its public. Comparing to the other democratic governments in the world, USA has been consistent, and much much better in its policy of declasifying its information after certain point of time. Well, if they are not informing you, then please beleive that they have a better reason! 2. ISREAL --- Your pointing out the BBC article: I wished you also have questioned, why after all ISREAL has taken such a decission to go in to Lebanon! From the time of the creation of Isreal, Arabs always looked at it as an enemy. They have caused hell lot of problems, if possible they could have eliminated Isreal. So please look at that history, before pointing out that Isreal and as its defence Minister Sharon tried to pull down buildings! I personally believe, though he is very much a changed man; Yasser Arafat committed a lot of agressions against the state of Isreal. Hence, Sharon's actions should be viewed in the background of what had been done by Yasser Arafat! You may say states are committing acts of Tit- for-Tat.... well show me that this human world can work in a different way :-) The entire world history is either drenched in Blood or in the tears - Sri Sri ( I think the cause has to be studided in the light of Marx "Historical Materialism") Also, please note that as a Prime Minister of Isreal, Yahud Barak tried to offer almost 95% of land back to Palastinians. But Arafat has refused it. Look at the reason, they wanted to have soverignty on Jerusalem. What is that which is so important in Jerusalem? The Al-AQsa mosque... It is claimed equally by all religions. But I believe Jews were the first inhabiters of that land, so it should rightfully belong to them. History has done injustice to Jews many times. Isreal is such a small state, I believe it is surviving only because wise states like US and other Western powers protecting it. Otherwise, it could have been annihilated by the same people (and many people who are taking on streets to protest now a days) who have brutally annihilated 6000 people by bring down the World Trade Center! Imagine such a thing ever happened to Isreal! As the citizens of the world, will we ever forgive ourselves for neglicting The Isreal's right to exist? Are we forgetting what has been done to Jews by Nazis? Or by those medivial kings? I believe USA and other western societies trying to protect Jews is perfectly justified. I ALSO STRONGLY AGREE TO THE POINT THAT PALASTINIANS SHOULD HAVE THEIR RIGHT TO FREEDOM. Actually, If they really want peace Palastinians can bring it to their homes in the next hour... I think Yasser Arafat wantedly ignored the chance of a golden handshake by Barak and Bill Clinton (then president of United States). Please think of the reason why Arafat did that! 3. And about Saddam Hussain in your letter: I would say A EVIL CAN NEVER BE REPLACED BY A LESSER EVIL. So US is right in what it has done towards Iraq. The suffering of Iraqi people should not be overlooked. But the very same Saddam Hussain, who is said to be modernist in your letter, could have brought prosperity to Iraqis --- just by accepting his mistakes and cooperating fully with the Weapons Commission! If Saddam Hussain was that good then he could have long back cooperated and brought peace to his land! The fact that he didn't cooperate shows to the world that US is justified in its stance. 4. Your worry that the action against Terrorists may backfire: SO WHAT! It is better to die in protecting humanity than ducking in the home and thinking that world is going to be safer because of our inaction. People in the world trade center could have never imagined before walking in to that trap that they are going to die that day! Some how or the other, everybody will die one day, so no need to worry. History always has shown that GOOD will always prevail against EVIL. The action is necessary so that the world could be safer in a better tomorrow. Conclusively, I would like to borrow our Sadanandaji's excellent quote: "Only a wise seriously does not take life seriously - He only acts seriously." Advaitins will always be advaitins...
