Guest guest
22-Oct Namaste! In one of the issues of Mother India (Aurobindo Ashram's monthly journal), I read an article ( I don't remember the exact month of issue and the author's name. I'll try to find it out) which says that the "ATHARVANA SUKTA" contains words like "mahamad" and "allahu akabar". The author opines that the sukta equated "allah" with "parameswara". Is this true? Can anybody in the list throw more light on this please? This is the first time I have heard of "atharvana sukta". I realize that this question has got nothing to do with advaita philosophy, so strictly speaking I should not be asking this question here. It is not my intention to waste valuable time of the listers by asking unwanted questions. I apologize if I've wasted anybody's time. Hari Om ===== Thanks and Best Regards Narayanan.K.G. Guest guest
Namaste, The following points need to be noted: 1. alla does mean mother in Sanskrit. 2. muktikopanishhat does not include any by the name "allopanishhat". 3. The following Shakta upanishads are included in muktikopanishhat: tripuraa tripuraa-taapinii devii bahvR^icha bhaavanaa saubhaagya-lakshmii sarasvati-rahasya siitaa [ These are all on-line at: http://sanskrit.gde.to/doc_upanishhat/doc_upanishhat.html ] 4. Gajanana Sadhale in his book, Upanishadvakya Mahakosha [1938], listed 239 upanishads he was able to check, and allopanishad is not among them. 5. On one of the web sites devoted to Sw. Dayanand Saraswati [Arya Samaj founder], I read a reference to it, in which he mentions that someone in Akbar's court, who knew a little bit of Sanskrit and Arabic, may have attempted to compose one by this title! 6. I have read about a reference to it in the catalogue of the Adyar Library, but nobody has so far published the full text [if it exists]. Guest guest
Namaste, Addendum: Shirdi Sai Baba [@1870-1919] 'always had Allah's name on his lips'; has never referred to a text by the name 'allopanishad'. [Nor for that matter has any other known saint]. Dear friends, I hear that "mahamada" and even "adama", "havyavati", "musa" etc. appear in the Bhavishya Purana. It would be useful if anyone here could provide access to an authentic translation or Sanskrit copy. -- Warmest regards, Ruben rubenn _____________
