Guest guest
"Some people think that the Gita should be taken to begin from the Second Chapter. If the actual teaching commences in the eleventh sloka of the Second Chapter, why not start from there? Someone even told me, "God has said that He manifests himself in 'a' among the letters of Nagari alphabet. Here the sloka 'asochyaananyasochastvam' begins spontaneously with the letter 'a'. So we should take that as the beginning." Apart from this argument, in many ways it would be quite right to take this as the beginning. All the same the introductory portion preceding this does have a value of its own. Without this preliminary narrative we cannot properly understand where exactly Arjuna stands and what the Gita is intended to teach. " ( from his discourses on gita) if some one has a copy of it which can be spared , please intimate me Soon you will find here the string of topics the group is related to, in terms of Gita , being posted here. Guest guest
Namaste! This humble self made a posting on the significance of the first chapter, which we generally tend to miss. The First Chapter is usually titled as Arjuna Vishaada Yoga.It is the Gateway of Srimad Bhagawad Geetha, which prepares the human heart fit to Understand Holy Bhagawad Geetha.Under Lord Sri Krishna's watchful eye,and the scenario created by the Lord Himself,Arjuna a mere warrior ofcourse of great calibre, was transformed into a saint. The first chapter is the pradhama or the very first yoga ,the yoga of Compassion.Putting oneself in Arjuna's shoes, one should feel the deep love and compassion starting from one's kith and kin and expanding as Viswaprem,-Guru Bhakti or absolute reverence to one's gurus,-concern for the evils of war and its ill effects on the society especially the women,-vairagya or not caring for one's name and fame-complete forgiveness to one's enemies even though they were the meanest and made repeated attempts to destroy Arjuna and his folks, and even tried to disrobe his wife Draupadi in public-etc etc.The Yoga of Compassion for others makes one a saint fit to see the Lord in person.Narada felt it in Satyanarayana Katha,Uddhava felt in Uddhava Geetha!Lord Brahma felt it in Brahma Smhita! My humble submission is that the first chapter is equally important as other yogas if not the primary requirement to understand the Holy Message of Geetha correctly. Guest guest
Namaste! 1.In Sri Satyanarayana katha,Sage Narada feels great concern and intense compassion for the human beings who are repeatedly born in different wombs and undergoing suffering due to their past deeds. The Sage out of such unselfish compassion wants to find a solution to the sad state of affairs. At once he could proceed to the Lord's abode and have Darshan of the Lord, who appreciates the Sage's agony and concern for the humanity and tells him the path to escape from suffering, which is the Holy and Well known Sri Satyanarayana vratham or pooja. The gist of the Katha can be summarized as: Know that the Lord is behind all events and is all powerful. Introspect and realize your own shortcomings and surrender to the Lord and seek His Grace. Such a devotee will not only be saved from the suffering but his desires will be fulfilled. 2.Towards the end of Bhagawatam,Uddhava felt intense agony for the fate of Dwaraka and its inhabitants,as Dwaraka is going to be submerged into the ocean. That intense compassion for the fate of others resulted in Lord Sri Krishna bestowing Amritha Geetha or the Ultimate Geetha called Udhava Geetha, the study of which bestows Amritham.!. 3.When Lord Brahma was commanded by the Lord to create the worlds,Brahma felt intense sadness and compassion for the Human beings who will suffer in the human life. The Lord reassures him that He will protect all that seek Him and infact He will be personally present in everyone.Brahma Samhita is subsequent joyful praise done by Brahma to the Lord. The above are short but crude narrations of the powerful Yoga of Compassion and unselfish concern for others which atonce bestows upon one wonderful Grace of the Lord. Srimad Bhagawad Geetha was a gift to Humanity due to Arjuna's yoga of compassion-Sri Satyanarayana Katha due to Sage Narada's Compassion--and Sri Uddhava Geetha due to Udhava's Compassion and so on.
