Guest guest
Namaste, The dhyaan mantra of the Gita contains the following verse: sarvopanishhado gaavo dogdhaa gopaalanandanaH . paartho vatsaH sudhiirbhoktaa dugdha.n giitaamR^itaM mahat .. All the upanishads are like cows; Krishna - the cowherd boy, is the milker; and Arjuna - the discerning son of the earth, is the enjoyer of the great ambrosial drink of the Gita. If the readers could suggest topics of interest to them, upanishadic references would not be hard to find. Guest guest
Namaste Shri Sunder, Thanks for taking a good step. Bhakti is one topic for which I personally think it is difficult to find upanishadic verses: 1. ananyAshchintayantaH mAm ye janAH paryupAsate 2. sarvadharmaN parityajya mAmekam sharanam vraja 3. bahUnAm janmanAmante j~nAnavAn mAM prapadyate... bahu dhanyavAdAH, NDS --- sunderh wrote: > Namaste, > > The dhyaan mantra of the Gita contains the > following verse: > > sarvopanishhado gaavo dogdhaa gopaalanandanaH . > paartho vatsaH sudhiirbhoktaa dugdha.n giitaamR^itaM > mahat .. > > All the upanishads are like cows; Krishna - the > cowherd boy, is the > milker; and Arjuna - the discerning son of the > earth, is the enjoyer > of the great ambrosial drink of the Gita. > > If the readers could suggest topics of interest to > them, upanishadic > references would not be hard to find. > > > Regards, > > Sunder > > > advaitin, "Chakravarthy madhavan" > <madhra1@h...> wrote: > > > > > > > start a detailed series Comparing the Upanishads > with the Gita, with > the > > Gita as the base document, many like me will > benefit. > > > > Madhavan > _____ > > > > ------------------------ Sponsor > > Discussion of Shankara's Advaita Vedanta Philosophy > of nonseparablity of Atman and Brahman. > Advaitin List Archives available at: > http://www.eScribe.com/culture/advaitin/ > To Post a message send an email to : > advaitin > Messages Archived at: > advaitin/messages > > > > Your use of is subject to > > > Find the one for you at Personals http://personals. Guest guest
Namaste, The following references may be helpful: shvetaashvatara 6:23 - yasya deve paraa bhaktiH ....[who has the highest devotion for God]. kaivalya 2 - .... shraddhaa-bhakti-dhyaana-yogaad avehi ......[seek to know (Brahman) by faith, devotion, meditation ......] kaivalya 5 - ........ bhaktyaa svaguruM praNamya ....[bowing with devotion to the teacher]. mukti 1:4 - [also 14, 48] bhaktyaa shushruushhayaa raama.n stuvan paprachchha maarutiH .. [devotedly serving Rama, Maruti asked Rama....] Other references are in Vasudeva, Ramottaratapani, etc. The shaiva, vaishhNava, shaakta, upanishads can be described only as bhakti upanishads. The 10 major upanishads define the Unity of Atman and Brahman, eschewing a dualistic approach. So, it would seem that the term used there is 'nishhThaa' [devotion to knowledge - j~naana-nishhThaa], rather than 'bhakti'. In Shankara's Gita Bhashya, he has also used similar terms. Gita 18:50 - ...... nishhThaa j~naanasya yaa paraa ..[supreme consummation of knowledge.] Gita 18:54 - ..... madbhakti.n labhate paraam.h .[attains suprme devotion to Me.] "the fourth or the highest of the four kinds of devotion, namely the devotion of knowledge , spoken of in 7:16"]. In the final merging in the ocean of Brahman, bhakti and j~naana remain inseparable.
