Guest guest
My namaskArams to all the learned members of this list. I think that there are a lot of similarities between katopanishad and the Bhagavad Gita. The central theme of the Upanishad is death, and what happens thereafter. This is what nachiketas wanted to know and this is what yamA teaches him. This mostly is what is dealt with in the second chapter of the gita. slokas II.19, & 20 in both the Gita and 2.18 & 19 kathOpanishad are almost identical. Another striking feature is the chariot simile which appears in the third Valli Atmanam rathinam viddhi sharIram rathameva cha Buddhintu sArathim viddhi manah prgrahameva cha IndriyANi hayAnAhur vishayAmsteshu gOcharAn This brings up vividly images of kurukshEtra and gitopadesa. There are many other similarities where the same concept is expressed. This is true not only of the Kathopanishad but of other Upanishads as well. If some of the learned scholars of the list ( of whom there are many) can start a detailed series Comparing the Upanishads with the Gita, with the Gita as the base document, many like me will benefit. Madhavan Kishore wrote "dear friends, i invite your comments on the following items: a) ' is theconcept ofbhakti as elucidated in gita preached in upanishads also?" b) katha upanishad is included in gita, esp II chapter. comments pleas love to all kishore" _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
