Guest guest
Namaste: Music lovers of the world community will be missing a great musician, George Harrison, the youngest of the well known rock group - Beatles. George Harrison had also great respect for Indian Music and Hindu philosophy. He was introduced to Indian philosophy by none other than the Indian Sitarist, Ravi Shankar. George Harrison also was introduced to Transcendental Meditation with the guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Musicians' love for philosophy are always expressed through the lyrics of their songs. The lyrics of Indian Classical music contained rich philosophical messages. Also musicians communicated such philosophies blended beautifully with their emotions. There are plenty of examples for such expressions including that of Ramdas, Dhukaram, Kabir, Jayadeva, Thiagaraja, Purandradas. Harrison's song, "Within You, Without You" (1967) on the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" reflected his respect for Hindu culture and philosophy. Another song with the touch of advaita philosophy is: "When you have seen beyond yourself - /Then you may find, is/Waiting there- /And the time will come when you/We'are all one, and life flows on within/You and without you." His touch of `advaita philosophy' deep within the lyrics is highly admirable. The lyrics and the way George Harrison expressed his emotions in POP Style is not any different from the Bhakti songs! Poets and singers have their own unique way of realizing the Truth of universal Oneness! warmest regards, Ram Chandran The Washington Post article, "George Harrison dies at 58", by Adam Bernstein explores this gifted musician's excellent contribution to the universal community of music lovers.
