Guest guest
Namaste Sri Rajan: First, on behalf of my fellow moderators, let me express my sincere thanks to you because your posting was quite inspirational. Also your posting has high potential to further motivate the silent members to undertake similar 'knowledge ventures.' The primary goal of this list is to enable members to share their knowledge with the fellow members to remove our ignorance. I strongly recommend that you go ahead and post your summaries of chapter one per week with the book title as the subject of the thread. (The Soul's Journey to its destiny - Summary Chapter 1...8) After the summary state some questions that focuses on the subject matter of that chapter. This will help other members to participate in the discussion (satsangh) with additional questions/comments. Only with such satsangh, we can enhance our knowledge and clear our doubts. Also such discussions will help the silent members to come forward for active participation. Your summary of the book with additional further discussions will stay permanantly in the list archives and will become a great asset for everyone (member and non member) who access the archives. I want to assure you that all moderators of this list are looking forward to help you to complete this 'knowledge venture.' Your postings will certainly the biggest 'Holiday Gift' from you to the fellow members. I am sending you this message once again as I did not get a confirmation from when I sent it. First let me thank you for the encouraging words. I felt "as it were" that you were sitting in front of me and saying it. I agree to do the posting once a week but I have a suggestion for your consideration in this matter. I think the subject deals with the "core" of this groups interest. It is well known that I am not an expert in this matter. I may not get the semantics right, for example the posting of Shri Madhav on-God having a desire vs. thought. So I suggest that I make the posting to the moderators and and they can edit it if the semantics is not right. They may also add a commentary such as sources for further reading or possibly an elucidation. They may lead the discussions with some questions without necessarily answering them immediately etc. It is not important that the postings are in my name. I have no problem what-so-ever if it is in the moderators name. For me it is a "precise" writing as in school days. The source is a well known book. It is not that I am diffident or unprepared, I have already prepared for all chapters in my freehand (so that I can remeber it better) and have just to key it in. It is my feeling that it should have the right impact. I would also request your assitance in finding the e-mail address of the publisher of this book. The idea is to get prior permission or offer to pay for the cost of 100 books. The publisher is : Swami Mumukshananda, President Advaita Ashrama, Mayavati, Pithoragrah, Himalayas. The publication dept is at: No.5 Delhi Entally Road, Calcutta 700 014. Since the notes were compiled and edited by "Vedanta Society of North California" they may also have some idea of it. Swami Ashokananda was heading this society from 1932 till 1969. The book is based on his lectures delivered at San Francisco in 1953. Best Regards and Hari OM.
