Guest guest
Dear Friends, Here are two stories quoted from the book "Vedanta Treatise by Prof.A.Parthasarathy".I feel they possibly illustrate the true meaning of Advaitha in a very simple manner. 1.Who am I? Janaka was a great king and sage. One night he dremt that he was a miserable beggar. The beggar suffered tremendous hardship. He woke up as Janaka. Janaka summoned the wise men of his kingdom and posed a queation:"Am I king Janaka who dremt that I was a miserable beggar?Or am I that beggar now dreamingthat I am king Janaka?"The answer to this question was given by the celebrated sage Ashtavakra.Ashtawakra said"You are neither the king Janaka nor the beggar. You are the Supreme self,Atman.Atman functioning through your gross body is now assuming the form of King Janaka.A while ago the same Atman, functioned through your subtle body and assumed the form of a beggar.A while laterit will function through your causal body and take the form of a deep-sleeper.You are not the waker, dreamer or deep-sleeper.You are yourself. 2.Interview with God! A prince went to Swami Ramathirth and put this question"O venerable sir, who is God?Where is He?Please take me to God.I wish to see Him." The Swami answered "Dear prince , if you wish to see God, I will have to tell Him who you are.So please give me your visiting card. When a man wants to see a high dignitary, does not send his card first?I will place your card in the hands of God, I am sure He will see you" The prince thought that the request was quite reasonable, quite in order to comly with.So he took a piece of paper and wrote his name"Sri Gajapati Raju". The Swami read it.He returned the slip saying "This is your name.God will like to know who you are, not your name."The prince took back the slip and wrote in another"Prince of Vijayanagaram.".Again the Swamy remarked, "but this is your status".The confused prince wrote a third time" Administrator of Vijayanagaram".. "That is your position"rejoined the Swami,"I do understand now. Sir, I see the fallacy in my concepts.I am giving only my descriptions, qualifications and attributes. I do not seem to know who I am?" So saying the prince reflected deeply. He began to introspect. He started the process of self analysis. I am sure some of the members who are in the intial stages of the search for truth will start this self analysis With best Wishes Ramachander
