Guest guest
Namaste: So far the discussions on this topic were quite appropriate with the focus on the relevance of this topic in Advaita Philosophy. We can find plenty of valid points in support or opposing the various contentions because the issue is rather complex with no definite yes or no! Here is my understanding. There are many misconceptions about Yoga because we have become more familiar with the `Yoga classes' that focuses on fine tuning the body and/or mind. The majority associate Yoga with the method of disciplining the body and the mind. Yoga is not just physical postures (Asanas) and mental exercises and it is more than that. The term, yoga in Gita refers to a way of life with permanent happiness (away from temporary worldly happiness.). Every Gita Chapter ends with a concluding verse in praise of Gita - "iti srimad bhagavadgitasu, Upanissatsu, brahmavidhyaayam, yogasastre......" (Thus in the Upanishads of the glorious Bhagavad Gita, in the science of the Eternal, in the scripture of Yoga,.....). Gita beautifuly describes the characteristics of a `Perfect Yogi' in Chapter 2, verses 55 to 72 beautifully. Interestingly, I do not remember to have seen any reference to Kundalini Yoga in the enitre Gita, the essence of Upanishads and Brahmasuutra. Finally, I believe that this list is not restricted to discussions that pertain only to Upanishads, Brahmasuutra and Gita. We have been discussing other topics that are directly or indirectly addressing the issues related to Advaita Philosophy. As one of the moderators, I feel uncomfortable to restrict any postings that discuss spiritual topics and the moderators have already indicated their opinion regarding this. So far the list has been kept open with little intervention and will remain the same as much as possible. Honestly, every member in this list is an unofficial moderator and many of you have performed this role very well. We once again want to remind the members to send their objection by sending an email to <advaitins instead of posting any such objections to the list. This will greatly help the moderators to handle the situations with appropriate actions. Thanks again for your understanding and cooperation. warmest regards, Ram Chandran
