Guest guest
Namaste Ganeshji: Thanks for posting the verses of ThiruvempAvai composed by the great Shiva Saint, ManickavAsakar. The first verse focuses on the Shiva Deity of Arunachala Temple (Thiruvannamalai)and the adjective "arumperuny chOdhiyaiA" is the direct reference to the "Light of Wisdom." Bhagawan Ramana was also guided by the same light of wisdom from the Arunachala Temple. Saint ManickavAsakar and Bhagawan Ramana both were enlightened by the wisdom showered to them by Lord Shiva. I know Tamil and I tried to understand the authencity of the English translation posted here for the first verse. I come from Madurai where I have listened to the recital of Thevaram and ThriumvempAvai at the Minakshi Temple. I am sorry to say that the translation presented here did not communicate the emotional expression of ManickavAsakar the poet saint. Every tamil word in Tamil got translated into the English equivalent without fully expressing the poet's true intent. I did go through the entire tranlsation at the referenced site and I find the translation very inadequate. I suggest that you should take time and try to bring the full philosophical meaning behind the poem. Tamil and Sanskrit are ancient languages and dictionary translation will not bring the correct intended meaning. This is my observation based on my Tamil knowledge and the familiarity of the story of ManickavAsakar, jnanaSambandar, etc. Before you start posting the rest of the verses, you are obligated to explain the context of these verses and the entire theme of ThiruvempAvai. Though all of us have the good intent to enhance the knowledge of our fellow members, we should take extra time to make sure that the materials are beneficial to a vast majority who may not be familiar with ManickavAsakar's works and the philosophy behind ThirumvempAvai. I hope that my observations are helpful to you to prepare your future postings with greater clarity. warmest regards, Ram Chandran Note: Please feel to correct me if I made any errors in my observation. advaitin, Subramanian Ganesh <sgesh> wrote: > (Since the month mArgazi starts day after tomorrow - > 16-Dec-2001 - would be posting thiruvepAvai and > thirupaLLiezuchchi during this month.
