Meaning:

The Lady of the hills (pArvatI), whose beautiful walk

is like that of the female elephant and that of the

swan - in the joy of her company our Lord resides; As

the army of budhas recite music, Dances; He is the One

having the river in the vast long matted hair; Sings

the vedas and the music of seven notes; dharumapuram,

where the tides of the deep sea after splashing the

bubbles throughout the shore retreats drooping off,

where in the enchanting fields of blooming punnai the

bees, arrested in the flower, scream continuously and

the cuckoos try their singing - such a wonderful place

is the abode of the Lord !!

Notes:

1. nIlakaNTa yAzppANar

(http://www.shaivam.org/nayaazpa.html) was the

musician who accompanied sambandhar and played his

songs wherever they went. As they reached dhrumapuram,

a place of many relatives of yAzppANar, they flocked

him and started saying that sambandhar's hymns became

famous only because of yAzpANars play on yAz. The true

devotee yAzppANar was shocked, but the young saint was

unruffled. He sang this song which yAzppANar could not

fit in his yAz. Disappointed by the inability to

serve, that sincere devotee was about to break the

yAz. The prodigy who excelled in thamiz, stopped him

saying it was not his fault but the music was beyond

the scope of that particular instrument and requested

him to continue his service. yAzppANar's relatives

understood their foolishness and praised those two

marvelous devotees. Since the it broke the limits of

the yAz, this song is titled yAzmUri.

2. In this padhikam the description of the picturesque

scene of dharumapuram is heart stealing.

3. piDi - female elephant; punal - water (river)

I said I gave my body - became far off from guru's teachings

I said I gave my mind - became far off from the linga

I said I gave my wealth - became far off from the devotees

There is nothing more disasterous than the disaster I got ito by saying "I did

for You", kUDalasangamadEva ! - basavaNNa
