Yoga Vashishta

Namaste. I recently came to know that there is a commentary on Yoga

Vashishta by Swami Venkatesananda which is very good. Since I could

not get the same in any of the shops dealing with such books in

Mumbai, I browsed Amazon.com and came across two versions of the book

by the same author:

 

Vashishta's Yoga which is 768 pages and The concise Yoga Vashishta

which is 430 pages.

 

I would request advice from list members on which one the two above

they would recommend to me. Also if they know of any place in India

where one or the other may be available, I would be grateful to

receive such information as well.

re: swami Venkateshanandaji's books on Yoga vashiShTa

 

I find both books to be too much abbreviated and do not do

full justice to the original. Of the two books, the larger

one is slightly better, but yet, does not give the full flavour

of the original. On the other hand, I have the good fortune

to have the videotapes of swami venkateshanandaji's discourses

on Yoga VashiShTa in Australia some time ago. This is a total

of more than 30 hours of video. It is a pleasure to see these

videos again and again. Swami Venkateshanandaji takes the

topic to such great depths that the two books which you

referred to earlier pale in comparison to the analysis

contained in the discourses.

 

In book version, I find swami Jyotirmayanandaji's presentation

on Yoga VashiShTa (in four volumes) is much better in depth of

analysis than swami Venkateshanandaji's books.

 

This is just one man's opinion.
