Dear Gabriele

thank you for posting this beautiful poem.

I have read other poems that you you have posted and they too were wonderful.

Can I suggest that your heart is very finely attuned to this form of beauty?

Last year I went to a retreat with the Sage Francis Lucille

and he suggested an experiment that I might like to perform.

He assures me that the consciousness that I know is the same consciousness

that you know and that all creatures know, and that it is not different from

God.

So, an experiment to test this would be to address all whom one meets, not as

a person,

not as a mind or body, but as infinite consciousness. And then observe what

happens.

"You have glimpsed, he said, that who you are

is not this troubled man

and not this time-bound body

but only the one who sees.

Now you must see

that the one sees your mind,

the one who sees your body,

is the One who sees all.

So be bold, experiment,

and see in all you meet,

not the man or woman, young or old,

but Infinite Consciousness Herself,

And wait patiently, wait, to see if God reveals Herself,

to Herself."

Namaste all,

On this line of thought, and picking up the

ever-returning thread about advaita in the world's

spiritual traditions, here are some words from Ibn al

Arabi. As the vast library of this man's work is being

translated there is more and more confirmation of his

non-dualistic vision/insight.

The first may appear to be dualistic but is in tune

with the Svetasvatara Upanishad and its final question

points to a non-dualistic reading:

'He created us to worship and know Him. If we gaze it

is upon Him. If we hear, it is from Him. If we use our

intelligence it is towards Him. If we know, it is Him.

If we have faith it is in Him. For it is He who is

revealed in every face, sought in every sign, gazed

upon in every eye, worshipped in every object of

worship and pursued in the visible and in the

invisible. The whole world prays to Him, prostrates

before Him, hearts are enraptured in Love for Him,

minds are bewildered in Him. I am consumed with love

for Him, for His manifestation is for my sake. All

creation is my beloved, so where, Oh where is He who

enraptures all?' (Al futuhat al makkiyah)

The second now answers the question, beginning in

Islamic tradition, but behind the words can we not

hear advaitin teaching of nirguna/saguna Brahman:

'In the Name of God, the merciful and compassionate.

And to Him we ask for aid. Praise be to God in whose

Oneness there was not a before unless the before were

He. And after whose singleness there is not an after

unless the after be He. He is, and with Him there is

no after, before, nor above, nor below, nor far nor

near, nor union, nor division, nor how, nor when, nor

times, nor moment, nor age, nor being, nor place. And

He is now, as He was. He is the One without oneness

and the Single without singleness. He is not composed

of name and named for His Name is He and His named is

He.'
