Guest guest
Hello dear sirs,I have been reading all your postings with an alert interest and growing clarity,as different ideas and concepts unfold..you all seem to 'feed' of each other and by debate and discussion, the topics are cleared up,to the benefit of us all, leaving little room for ignorance to cloud us,and this has probably has done great good for many people, over the years, all blessings go to the founders and noble and democratic followers keeping the flame alight! the humility of the moderators of this list is astounding, especially to me a foreigner, and not born of Indian soil. This is my first posting on the list,I have been the opposite of the recommended/required list member,as active participation is often stressed, but it has been my lot to be a silent observer in most of my life through trials and triumphs, I always have tried to resist getting trapped or caught up in the duality that the word structure enfolds us in,and have never been one for intellectual discussion, or debates, thus have only been watching with a quiet interest, sometimes marvelling at the joy that this list embodies, and have had more than one doubt cleared due to your tireless efforts, please forgive me,for only taking, and giving nothing in return. I live in Africa and have just turned 19.I am interested in finding a living sage,or sat guru as I believe it is sometimes called, one who has realized his own Self Nature, and who is an embodiment of my Beloved who’s song I can never sing. Are my life’s destiny and mission one,or two? if I may indulge in barbarianism for a moment to give words to my one yearning, as 'realizing the Self',or what is sometimes called 'That','That' does not permit those words or phrases into its chamber, but never the less some here may know the silent agonies of one seeking for Life or whatever colourful terms that we can come up with,I dislike them all.My second yearning, and deep aching in my heart is to find, and be with the One Guru, who is like a dustless mirror, sparkling with the Clarity of the Self,Shining as the Brighest diamond in the world, attracting me,and pulling me into His Boundless Love.I believed maybe some of the members of this unique list may know or be in contact with such a one,and could enlighten me to his whereabouts. It is no robes or rituals, initiations, sannyasis or colourful designs I care for,but only his silent presence, an authority unto himself,as proclaimed in the Upanishads, I Am Brahman, what other authority does he need, unlike the claimants and phonies, right in there own place, and as nature intended them,it is only my gaze looks higher and beyond, longing to be drowned in the clear waters of Love, who is Clarity Herself, and who’s Fire of Love and Boundless Waters seem to join to form an Infallible Mystery, is my only refuge. I have looked at the sayings of U.G. Krishnamurti, and believe the Self to have eradicated his form, and to be Shining brightly though him...also I have read an article in a well known magazine about one they call 'Ajja',living in the South of India, who appears to be a genuine and authentic soul,of the highest 'attainment'.Otherwise I have very little knowledge in this regard. I ask that anyone who may read this message, and who might have some knowledge pertaining to one or both of these sages,or any advice concerning my insatiable longing to meet a living embodiment of That, not one who speaks of the scriptures, but one who is Living the Truth of the scriptures, and therefore has little to say,or who may be chattering all day,or may even appear crazy, what does it matter for one such as him? I have very little money, but would like to leave my home to go and be with Him,I am happy with my poverty. To one who may be reading this, please forgive my long winded writing and babbling,I hope I have conveyed somehow what I intend to ask,and that what has been left out may be understood by some. I await your suggestions or comments and am grateful for your kindness. Guest guest
To long for Self-Realization at a young age is a good thing and shows the merit of past efforts. Have you heard of Ramana Maharashi? Once Ramana Maharshi was asked how one can find the True Guru and he replied “by intense meditation”. You can look at the official Sri Ramana website. http://www.ramana-maharshi.org/ You can also post your question on and many people can comment on it as well. Since you are looking for a living embodiment of 'That', and you stressed on 'LOVE', I trust you must have darshan of Mata Amritanandamayi called 'AMMA' (South Indian word for MOTHER) with love and reverence by Her devotees. I have had an occassion to visit 'Amma' twice. My first visit has been out of general spiritual interest in a holy person. On the second occassion after about 6 years I had Darshan of Amma. This time I had an occassion to be present and witness her geneue love for man kind. It will be foolish on my part to cite an incident to prove her Love for all of us. But she is truly an embodiment of Love. You shall rejoice by Her darshan. While no single sage may be appealing to all because of our own temeprament and preparedness to recognise the divinity, it is my opinion that 'Amma' is a realised soul and demonstrating what 'LOVE' and 'BLISS' of SELF is to all of us. Namaste, One doesn't have to remove the body to isolation and poverty, only the mind. The greatest guru is your own higher self--go within. Who am I? If you find this not suitable then it may be you need to go on a devotee path as well. However don't put your trust in men......ONS..Tony. Guest guest
Dear Papaji, I am a little delayed in responding to your fascinating request so eloquently put. For a 19 year old you are tremendously profound in your quest and its expression. Congratulations. Out of intense longing comes forth opportunities for "experience" and "knowledge". The intense longing itself will attract your Guru who will recognize you and who will be looking for you. The same intense longing will push you to the right spot to get to your Guru. It can be through a dream or darshan or when reading a book of some saints like Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, Yogananda, Shridi Saibaba, Ammachi, Shankaracharya, etc. or when you are trying to help someone who really deserves some help or other avenues. If your search and the consequent longing is genuine and if your intellect is sharp to discriminate then the true Guru has to and will come to you. This has happened to Yogananda, Paul Burnton, etc. No one can tell you who could be your Guru, the one who is the living Scriptures. However, I am hoping many members of Advaitin group will come forward how they found their intense longings satisfied and how they came across their Guru's. -- Vis
