================================

Sri Sathaya's post follows here

Dear Friends,

Thank you for allowing me to be a participant in these very active groups.

My name is Sathia and I am writing to you from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I wish to put forward the following before you to seek your views and

cooperation.

I had suggested earlier as follows in Akandabaratam Discussion group:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The case that I am making is that we may need a Body of Knowledge on

Hinduism (which should generate discussion and be periodically

reviewed and updated) explaining the philosophy, rationale, process,

procedure etc. for the ordinary man. Can the temples and Universities in

Tamil Nadu which have the resources undertake such a task coordinating

available talent worldwide and create a Body of Knowledge on Hinduism for

the benefit of Hindus around the world?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Since then I have thought it might be better if we can start

something ourselves and let the effort gain momentum as we proceed.

Those who wish to join in this journey are most welcome and you do

not have to be a Hindu in order to take part. Let me caution you

right at the onset that this is a project that will go beyond our

lifetime but in one step at a time calculated to bring relative

benefit to the step taken.

Dr Loga, Visu and Ulakanathan, Vivek and Ram have given their initial

feedback on the subject that I shall refer to in short BoKH for Body of

Knowledge on Hinduism. I greatly appreciate their views. Although there are

some who do not like the word Hinduism and prefer an indigenous name, I am

not sure of a better internationally known and better understood name that

represents collectively the various schools of thought. Now, after having

been enrichened by their discussions, let me state my conclusions:

a. That there is no objection to the idea of creating the Proposed

BoKH.

b. The issue primarily is how to go about it to ensure success.

[success will be as defined in BoKH.]

c. The proposed BoKH must meet the following needs:

i. Actively support the individual in his lifelong passage

as an unconstrained traveller in the metaphysical realms seeking the

truth.

ii. Assist the individual's goal in life to learn continuously and to

destroy his or her ignorance within so that knowldege culminates into

understanding. There shall be no pretence that the BoKH represents

everything knowable or that it constitutes the final word.

iii.Assist in developing mental and physical health of the individual.

iv. Function like a nervous system with a continuous feedback loop to

support and enhance development of knowledge.

In our quest to build the Body of Knowledge on Hinduism, one way of

approaching the subject is simply to ask questions and attempt to provide

answers. That way we will be clarifying many of the ideas, confusions and

excitements that lurk within us.

My favourite method of asking questions is to use who, what, when, why,

where, how, and if.

For a start, can I request you to forward your questions first?

We shall compile them and then seek out some answers.

I start of with some questions below:

who:

Who will be the major beneficiaries of this project?

Who will be on the Project Team?

Who will pay for the project development expenses?

Who will pay for the maintainance expenses after development?

Who will decide that the project is successful?

what:

What is the scope of the project?

What does this project not cover?

What do you mean by Body of Knowledge?

What can I do to help?

What are the expertise needed to do this project?

What will be the development and maintainance expense for this project?

What does Phase 1 of the project cover?

What will be the benefit from Phase 1 of the project?

What are the success factors?

What will happen if we do not do this project?

What are the appropriate technologies that we will be using?

What is the best organisational structure for the Project Team?

when:

When is the auspicious time to start the project?

When will Phase 1 be completed?

When do we shut down this project, if things do not go well?

why:

Why must we do this project?

Why are we doing this project on the Internet?

Why should we be interested in the Body of Knowledge on Hinduism?

where:

Where will the Body of Knowledge reside?

Where will the Project Team be located?

Where are the sources of knowledge located?

how:

How do we go about doing this proejct?

How do I access the Body of Knowledge?

How do I contribute to Body of Knowledge?

How do we generate income to develop and to support maintainance of Body of

Knowledge?

How do we safekeep the Body of Knowledge?

How do I describe Hinduism in thirty seconds?

if:

If we do not do this project, what harm or good will there be?

If there are no contributors to Body of Knowledge what shall we do?

If there are no sponsorships for the project, how we can help?

If I commit myself today, can I withdraw afterward?

If I commit myself to help out, what do I get?

Please come up with more questions that you may wish to ask.

Willingness and the courage to help each other is the key.

Thank you.

With best regards,

Sathia,

Kuala Lumpur,

Malaysia.
