Thank you so much for the link to Swami Paramarthananda. I have just

listened to both Parts 1 and 2 of Sivarathri 2002. First I must say that I

was quite surprised at how similar his speaking style and even voice quality

are to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Incredible. Where might I find his picture?

I didn't see any on the audio lectures web link. I'm interested in following

up further with him and his program.

I enjoyed this topic on 'Are Scriptures Scientific' and the whole talk

overall. However, I think that it is possible to continue to move forward

significantly in many areas of scientific investigation that he has not

mentioned, but of course, this is far from his primary focus anyhow. One can

only be concur with him that the information coming into each of the 5

physical senses are mutually exclusive of each other. He calls scripture

equivalent to a 6th sense. This is fine and from my experiences it surely is

a reality. So staying with the vocabulary set that he uses, for the moment,

we can postulate that one should be able to study this 6th sense in more

detail just as we have studied the 5 physical senses. So be it. Indeed,

that is being done and I do not see a conflict with his messages.

Overall, his concern was that science wants to PROVE the existence of this

and that about religious and ritualistic things, and that such is not

possible (at least in his perspective of the present state of science). I

come in from a different direction because for me, there is nothing to PROVE.

I already know and have experienced much, a great deal indeed. Jai guru

deva, punah, punah. I've been there. I am there, to some extent or other,

even though there is a lot further to go. It's not a matter of proving

anything to anyone, including to myself. The study topic structures are way

beyond that. It's a matter of understanding the details and mechanics of

operation of the universal laws of nature that sustain such beautiful rich

fields of flowing bliss. Paramarthananda's 6th sense is as fine as any

definition for delineating the domain of such a research program, and

scientific methodology can be and is being used right now for doing just

that. It is not necessary to proclaim, as an automatic default, the negation

of any activity.

jai guru dev,

Edmond

You should find some pictures under the link Album on this web site

http://www.yogamalika.org/newweb/yogahome.html

I only heard Maharishi Mahesh Yogi briefly and that too a long time

back. I like Swami Paramarthananda's style as it is easy paced and

yes - the voice quality is pretty good too. You shold also check out

His other speeches such as "What is Happiness?", "Dealing with Worry"

etc.

I plan to get more of His speeches and books on my (or my family's)

next trip to India this summer.

Quiet right. The speech as I understand was delivered on Sivarathri

day a few days back to what I presume is a large audience - so He

would not have the time to go into all the details.

I didn't realise when I posted my message about the audio link but

there is another discussion based on the text of the speech posted in

the Hindu newspaper:

advaitin/message/12717

The newspaper article is not complete and misses out some important

points in my opinion.

Sundar Rajan
