If a person remains undeterred and unshaken when things go wrong in ventures that he undertakes and welcomes everything with a smile giving up all worries and faces even the unexpected challenges, the heart of that man is said to be filled with wisdom. To a great extent, this attitude to stand firm despite adversities can be developed by the religious attitude he cultivates or possesses. Religion is realisation as to who he is, what is his relationship with God and the steps needed to reach Him. It is Divine love that will lead him to this goal. Spirituality means to "discover" oneself as to what is the purpose of his birth. It is not merely singing Bhajans, performing worship, visiting temples, going on pilgrimage or undertaking any other noble activity. To recognise "oneness" of all beings and seeing unity in diversity can be called spirituality. The basic truth that is to be recognised is that there is only one "soul" in all God's creations. If this is understood, there! will be no need for anyone to hate or abuse or criticise another. This attitude will thus provide him the strength to remain brave under all circumstances. Man should divide his time into four parts and spend one portion in spiritual pursuits so as to be freed from any kind of fear. In a lecture, Sri Sathya Sai Baba said, if a person sheds ego he will become dear to one and all; if he conquers anger, he will be rid of all worries; if he becomes prosperous and controls or even curbs his desires he will certainly enjoy happiness as he is able to win over greed. It is the main duty of everyone to maintain a cool mind like the moonlight and shining wisdom like the light of the sun. In the first instance he should give up his ego. If he retains anger within him and bursts out now and then, he cannot escape experiencing sorrow. Likewise if he possesses greed he can never be happy. Thus ego, anger and the desires are the three evils which everyone should eschew; otherwise he will become a demon. "Do not be carried away by worldly pleasures. Take to the sacred path and sanctify your time by chanting the Divine Names. There is no need to allocate a specific time or place for chanting, which can be resorted to wherever you are and whatever you are doing. It is ve! ry simple, yet the most effective way. No one can stop another person from adopting this. Human life is sacred and it should not be wasted in unworthy pursuits."
