Notes: 1. The people of other religion who could not tolerate their great scholar becoming a devotee of Lord shiva as thirun^Avukkarasar. Using the royal influence they had they tried to do him to death in whatever way they could think of. In all those hailing the Feet of Lord shiva that is the refuge of the devotees appar came out unhurt ! Disappointed to the core they bound him to a stone and pushed in the deep sea as a last option. The undaunted and unruffled saint with full determination chanted the Holy Five Syllables and this song hailing the glory of it. When the Grace is uplifting can the inanimate stone pull him down ? The stone itself became the boat for the saint and he reached the shore comfortably. appar in his own words narrates this incident "kallinoDu ennaip pUTTi amaN kaiyar ollai n^Ir puga nUkka en vAkkinAl n^ellu n^Ir vayal n^IlakkuDiyaran n^alla n^Amam n^aviRRi uyn^dhEnanRE" 2. This is the namachchivAyath thiruppadhikam sung by appar. (The complete padhikam is available through http://www.shaivism.org/pal.htm ) 3. choRRuNai vEdhiyan could also be interpreted as the provider of vEdhas that stay with the verbal support. (vEdhas were only verbally communicated and were not written down and hence were called "ezudhAK kiLavi"). ===== --------------------------- Visit Shaivism Home Page at http://www.shaivam.org --------------------------- Tax Center - online filing with TurboTax http://http://taxes./
