List of worshippers, non-worshippers

CHENNAI

APRIL 8.

All religious texts contain categorical statements that God is the reservoir of

auspicious qualities and has absolutely no flaws and of greater importance is

His impartiality. Everyone can approach Him though they do not care to do so.

The Lord, as Krishna, gives a list of those who may not worship Him and those

who are keen to hold on to His feet. Hardly one in a thousand strains after the

perfect vision of the Supreme Being and hardly one succeeds from among those who

strive. There are many who seek different types of benefits and in pursuit of

these go after other gods. But the Supreme Lord, the only one, pervades the

animate and inanimate creations, sustaining them all (as they have limited types

of activities). The world is a delusive mystery, hiding what it ought to reveal

and only the blessed and good who can get over this delusion, will have the

vision of God, having made Him their refuge. God has declared that it is very

difficult to surmount His supernatural veil o!

f delusion (Maya) consisting of the triple qualities (found in men) of super

activity, of average nature and of indolence. But those who surrender themselves

absolutely to Krishna and to Him alone, can easily get over this ocean of Maya.

Krishna's super powers can be seen when even as a child, He enabled His mother

to tie Him to a mortar and later relieved two celestials standing as mute trees,

from their curse. Krishna's greatness also can be noticed when He was chosen for

the prime honour when the Pandavas conducted the Rajasuya Yagam.

Lord Krishna then refers to four classes of persons who may not worship Him and

may not surrender to Him owing to their non-devotional attitude. Some are the

vilest, leading dissolute life; some are atheists; some worst among mankind and

others, though well-versed, seek the Impersonal, Absolute forms and therefore

are prone to disparage Krishna, regardless of the Truth that He is the Supreme

Lord. He then gives four classes of righteous people who observe scriptural

rules of regulated lives, who are eager to worship Him. Some of these devotees

seek relief from distress; some want knowledge; some desire material gains and

others (Jnanis) are those, who want to serve God alone with no other goal to

think. Among them the last category of devotees are dearer to the Lord. He will

help devotees to get rid of bondage, said Swami B. S. Damodar Maharaj in a

discourse.
