Lord's magnanimity is unparalleled

CHENNAI

MAY 20

.. Everyone born in this world has a problem of some nature; this cannot be

denied. But what is surprising is the negative attitude that such a suffering

person takes presuming that there can be no answer for his difficulties. Some

people claim that only in present days there is so much of stress and baffling

issues whereas previously there was peace and all were happy and that times have

changed. This is not true because facts tell us that every generation has faced

both evil and good, agony and ecstasy, heroes and villains. Hence what is now

needed is not to get demoralised and feel dejected about the dangers.

The important message from our scriptures is simple, "submit", meaning thereby

that a person in distress should entrust all his cares to the Lord and He will

shower all benefactions, not only what is sought but much more, provide

consolation and even salvation. Such is His magnanimity, which is unparalleled

and He will provide the needed peace to all. Such a person should also remember

that the Lord is alive and the idols before whom he offers his surrender and

calls Him by chanting His names, are beautiful to witness and adore. God's

presence can be experienced by a devout person and can be "seen" by those who

display intense devotion.

These are the sentiments of a saintly soul, who, suffering from excruciating,

unbearable rheumatic arthritis and unable to get cured by medicine 450 years

ago, "submitted" his appeal to the Lord in Guruvayoor. His prayer is in the form

of the famous Sanskrit hymn, "Narayaneeyam", a transcreative summary of the

Bhagavatam by this savant, Narayana Bhattadri. The very first verse points out

how an illness that could not be cured by a doctor was removed through faith in

God, said Srimati Prema Pandurang in a discourse. This is a work written out of

personal experience as he had witnessed the glorious vision of the Lord.

According to him human beings are indeed privileged to worship "Guruvayoorappan"

in this holy centre. When the bewitching idol of the Lord, as a child resides

here, why then should one approach other deities, he asks. The second verse

removes the misconception among some that Hindus are "selfish". Far from it,

they pray for world's good and for the prosperity of !

the entire humanity. Bhattadri then describes the beauty of the Lord and adds

that He is prepared to grant any boon.
