Hari Om. There is a good book in English with sanskrit text of the slokas by Sivananda himself of the 10 major upnashids. It is written within the context of advaitin theory as interpreted by Adi Sankara. It also has an Index. The book is not very expensive. I bought it from Giri Trading agency (famous for Bakhti books and pooja materails) located in front of Kapali temple in Mylapore, Chennai. I am presently reading it in Saudi. Pranams. Guest guest
Dear Kathiresan Swami Gambhirananda has beautifully translated the commentary of Sankara for nine Upanishads. It appears as a three volume publication of Advaita Ashrama (Calcutta) entitled: Eight Upanishads- Vol.1 Eight Upanishads - Vol.2 Chandogyopanishad. Brihadaranyakopanishad commentary has also been translated by one of the Swamis of Ramakrishna Mission but I don't remember whether it is the same Gambhirananda. It is also a Ramakrishna Mission publication. All the above are in English. If you want something in Tamil, Kadalangudi publications of Madras has all the translations of Sankara's commentary by Kadalangudi Natesa Sastrigal. Again I am not sure of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. In Tamil there is also the short commentary by 'Anna' for all the Upanishads following Sankara's bhashyas. These are Chennai Ramakrishna Mission publications. PraNAms to all advaitins. profvk ===== Prof. V. Guest guest
Dear Kathiresan, I have several publications of the Upanisads in my collection. But the best and that which I read now and then is that of Dr Radhakrishnan The Pricipal Upanisads , published by George Allen and Unwin. The slokas are given in Roman with copious explanatory notes inn English. The edition I have was published in 1953 and I understand it was the first edition. Guest guest
Namaste I sincerely thank Sri Nityaji, Sri Logaji, Sri Krishnamurthyji & Sri Rajanji for the replies and recommendations. Actually I do possess a copy of Dr Radhakrishnan's Principal Upanishads, but what I was looking for was the specific translations of Adi Shankaracharya's bhashyas on the 10 upanishads. I believe Sri Krishnamurthyji's recommendation of Swami Gambhirananda's translations of the Upanishad bhashyas would be of great help to my studies. I will contact the local Ramakrishna Mission immediately. Thanks to all who made an effort to find me this information. I truly appreciate it. Have a nice day.
