Guest guest
Dear List Members I have been invited to contribute towards a series of four 45 minute Religious programmes by ITV (the major commercial TV channel in the UK). The programme is being produced by a very reputable and professional team who have already produced some very good and incisive religious programmes like the 'Jesus File'. The programmes will have contribution from many well known scholars and theologians from all religions. I am always very keen to contribute in any religious programmes in order to gain a foot-hold in the British media, but the aspect of this series that makes me shudder and feel very apprehensive is the focus of the series:- "Sex and Religion" This is a peculiar way for my mentor to allow me access to the media. What to do? I will roll up my sleeves and have a go. I need to have the exact Hindu scriptural injunctions (chapter and verse) on a great many issues like: adultery, contraception, homo-sexuality etc. May I request the list members to point me in the right direction? Any text - any website - any person I can contact? I must have access to reliable authoritative information on all such issues. No doubt, the producers will throw in lots of images from the Kama Sutra and will no doubt, find some Oriental academic presenting Hinduism in a manner that will make it sound like a promiscuous religion. My task is not easy! jay

Why is masculine & feminine corepresented in the Hindu deities? With respect to Ramana whom speaks truth, I also wish to explore what Self is. Does this term just equate to the absolute? Or does it, could it, include the relative? I think Jay's mission could spout some good discussion. Colette

Guest guest
Dear Jay, Just a couple of suggestions. You could consider separating out the relevance from "Hindu culture and sex" and "Hindu Religion and sex". The first one is something to do with the land whereas the second one is the actual religion and spirituality (which is the topic given to you, I suppose). So I would suggest you could look for material on what Hindu scriptures talk about sex globally than to get lost in the topics you have mentioned. This may provide a correct and more importantly useful information to be shared with the world community. ( I guess literatures like kamasutra may fall into first category - just because it is in sanskrit it need not be a Hindu scripture right ?) Hope you would be able to collect the "right" resources for your topic that would have spiritual value. Best wishes. namaH shivAya love, Ganesh advaitin, "Vivekananda Centre" <vivekananda@b...> wrote: > Dear List Members > > I have been invited to contribute towards a series of four 45 minute > Religious programmes by ITV (the major commercial TV channel > in the UK). Guest guest
"I want Thee Oh Lord! This tide of my love cannot find a receptacle in little human beings. I want to love where this mighty river of my love can go, the ocean of love; this rushing tremendous river of my love cannot enter into little pools, it wants the infinite ocean. Thou art there; come Thou to me". This was Vivamangala prayer after the lady he loved declared to him: "But, my friend, why do you give that heart to a woman like me ? Why do you not give it to God ? You will be perfect". It was a thunderbolt to Vilvamangala's brain. He got a glimpse of the beyond for a moment…. And the man walked on, went to forest, began to weep and pray… - From The complete works of Swami Vivekananda - p.486 ----------------- This is an interesting story that shows the inadequacy of anything physical as regards that tremendous love that is God and how in the case of one man, the physical gets transformed into the Infinite. The main point here is the incapability of physical things to satisfy and a subsequent transformation into the Beautiful when physical aspects are conquered intelligently.
