Guest guest
hariH OM! namaste to all.. as nairji suggested, i changed the title of the thread. one of the reasons i used the word 'gun' in the former title was to emphasize the destroyer aspect of siva, which implies of course the destruction of avidya. another was to stir a bit of controversy, which is sometimes a useful means to provoke focused thought. the inmates at ramanashramam used to refer to bhagavan's use of atmavichara (Self-enquiry) as a brahmastram (divine weapon) in many cases where a philosophical question was put to him (e.g. Q: "why do i continue to struggle despite all these years of sadhana?" A: "first find out who's asking."). many ashramites as well as visitors used to say among themselves that they hoped he wouldn't use his brahmastram on them, and give them a practical answer to their question. make no mistake, despite that ramana demonstrated supreme compassion [to the point of *melting* one in their tracks], there was also a side to him that was as fierce as the stare of a poised tiger ready to strike its prey. and this was out of pure "tough love." for the colossal siva-destroyer intensity coming through him was aimed perfectly at the status quo Mind jambed with false data, false notions, false conceptions.. all of which has to go, one way or another.
