Guest guest
These are extraced from an article from the 'Times of India' dated June/30/2002. [For those who do not know, M.F.Husain is a painter.] ------ Beauty is my religion, says Maqbool Fida Husain. I am a believer: A believer in humanity. For me, the highest religion is the recognition of the human aspect-- it transcends all other religions of the world. … Right from my childhood, I have been obsessed with the human form. And it is in this form in its different manifestations that I have found spiritual bliss. There is a saying in the Quran that the Almighty is beautiful and He is in love with beauty. Beauty is my religion. I love all beautiful things-- the sky, beautiful trees, men, women - all that is beautiful inspires me. God is all about harmony…What makes a drop of water so significant and so beautiful? It is its design and perfect structure- the right form. This harmony is what I have found in different forms of humanity. … I felt beauty when I met Mother Teresa. She didn't say a word, but I felt the 'perfect' and the 'pure' in her presence. Human beings and elements of nature are tools which bring one close to what is Godliness. When I saw Rembrandt's famous creation Nightwatch, 30-40 years back, I felt the power of the Supreme in his painting. I went into a trance. It was a meditative experience. All my life, it is not only in painting beautiful images, but in also seeing them that I have evolved in my spiritual journey. My communication with the Almighty begins with the moment I hold the brush in my hand, see a beautiful vision, listen to a great tune or read a great piece of poetry.
