Guest guest
Hi, Could you please give some details about yourself such as your name, sex, age, your faith (religion), where you live and what you do? Every person is born into a certain set of circumstances that are meant to help him/her learn and grow. In course of time, a person is normally drawn automatically towards his/her spiritual path. Nevertheless, some suggestions can always be made depending on one's background. Regards. Guest guest
Dear mr sriram rao. Thanks a lot for your time. I am kumar. age 24 ( male) i am working as a software engineer in bangalore. i am a smarta brahmin by birth, and all elders in our family have a high esteem for the sringeri sankar math, and are followers of the same. I believe quite a few of my relatives were and are attracted to spiritual learnings, but i am not sure of what they are doing in their spiritual quest and where they are in that path. Hence i have not approached any of them. this is all i got to say about myself. thanks a lot for your time again, looking forward for your reply -kumar On Thursday 04 Jul 2002 3:06 pm, sriram rao wrote: > Hi, > > Could you please give some details about yourself such > as your name, sex, age, your faith (religion), where > you live and what you do? > > Every person is born into a certain set of > circumstances that are meant to help him/her learn and > grow. > > In course of time, a person is normally drawn > automatically towards his/her spiritual path. > > Nevertheless, some suggestions can always be made > depending on one's background. > > Regards. > > Sriram > > --- "kum_m31" <kum_m31 wrote: > > Dear all, > > > > can some one please help me , > > how i could begin my endaevour for spiritual > > enlightenment?? > > > > after looking at all the posts to this group, i feel > > , > > i need to walk miles before to even qualify as a > > starter. > > nevertheless i am very much interested and would > > like to try my best. > > > > please guide me some logical and systematic approach > > to start off on the path. > > > > pranams > > > > Sign up for SBC Dial - First Month Free > http://sbc. > > > > Discussion of Shankara's Advaita Vedanta Philosophy of nonseparablity of > Atman and Brahman. Guest guest
Dear Kumar, Seeing your background, you should have no difficulty in pursuing a spiritual path. I am not suggesting that you should follow the orthodox practices of your forefathers. This may be difficult given today's circumstances (though you could, if you want to). It is important to look into your motivations and inclinations. We have several layers of energies within us which together form the mind. Each of these layers need to be addressed so that your consciousness moves deeper and deeper. You should at this stage concentrate on mind control and at the same time assess your potentialities. For this a multi pronged method is normally successful in the earlier stages. Later, you will be guided automatically towards a specific path. If you believe in any particular 'God' who is your istadevata and are inclined towards prayer and worship, I suggest you make it a habit to offer daily prayers and surrender yourelf to Him. This is one sure and very joyful way of making progress. Daily japa & Gayathri will be very useful. You should also live responsibly and try never to compromise on your duties. By this I mean your duties towards your parents, your wife, children, other dependants, your country and society at large in addition to your job. Our svadharma or the dharma that we are born into and have an inclination for, is the sure path to spiritual progress. Performing your duties selflessly is most important to keep the ego down. Loyalty to your company and country is a must. Being a software engineer this could be all the more relevant to you. Try to control your mental energies through pranayama. You could learn yoga and pranayama from some expert. Try to understand the system of chakras and energy flows, which will give you a greater understanding of your mind. This cannot be done purely by reading. You could join some course in Pranic healing or Reiki, even if you are not interested in healing. This will give you a clearer and practical understanding of the energies moving in and around your body. Do not worry too much about your 'Self being Brahman' and so on. That is a stage to be reached and an insight to be gained, not some dogmatic concept to keep repeating on and off as some people tend to do. Your vision and view will change automatically as you progress and you will understand the Advaitic view. Hope this helps. Thanks & regards. Sriram Sign up for SBC Dial - First Month Free http://sbc.
