Guest guest
My teacher used to remind me: You never know what Lord has in store for you in Tomorrow! Well, that has come true in my life. I have been overwhealmed by the problems which have engulfed me for the last 5 months. When I was in troubles in 1990s I wrote a letter to Pujya Gurudev Swamy Chinmayanandaji -- I have asked him "why me!"... He replied to me saying "Lord gives us to test the metal, when we stand firm and never lose our faith in him then he will show us a way out"... He gave a wonderful example while quoting from the Gita "tEshAM ahaM samuddhartA mRUtyu saMsAra sAgarAt" (7-12). If you go to have a bath and in the bucket of water you saw an Ant fallen by mistake in to the water and struggling for its life... Out of compassion you just put your hand in to the water -- lift the ant and phew --- with one blow of air it is back on to the earth from the water bucket full of SamsAra! For the Ant the bucketfull of water is a question of life and death. But for you it is not! If you can show that much compassion on an Ant, dont you think the Lord will show it on you? SO JUST LEAVE IT TO HIM. THINK! JUST SAY TO YOURSELF "EVEN THIS WILL PASSAWAY"... The problems which have engulfed me have just thus lifted away by the Grace of Lord with in a span of 5 days! All is back to normal... As if a dream has passed by leaving some experiences to be carried in this physical world! The metal is definitely tested, and I came to know how vulnarable I am by falling in to that bucketfull of water :-) One never know his own inner vulnarabilities unless he gets an oppurtunity. Learn one must... A moment gone will never return again.. Thank you. I remain yours, Madhava
Guest guest
Madhava - . I am glad to hear your welfare. It is always easy to teach others not to worry but most difficult when things befall on us. You have withstood the test of time. I am sure the experience at that time was devastating but looking back it is all dream. We want to keep adjusting our dreams to suit our desires- like writing on a sheet of water without realizing how filmsy it is. May god bless you and your family. Hari OM! Sadananda --- "Madhava K. Guest guest
Namaste dear Madhava: Good to see you back to the list with a philosophical insights on human life. Here are some quotations endorsing your point of view, Life is like a river and let it carry you, not knowing where it will take you, and you will journey to amazing places; As the river travels through its course, it goes through various stages. Sometimes it slowly meanders among painted cliffs and at other times it rushes madly through rocky canyons. Similarly, throughout life there are times when you can sit back and enjoy your surroundings and blessings, and others when time rushes by, and you just try to survive the craziness. (Source unknown) "Life is like an old-time rail journey -- delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride. (Jenkin Lloyd Jones) " "Life is a bridge, enjoy while crossing, don't build a castle on it!" Guest guest
Dear Madhavji Namaste. Your coming back is welcome. When one experiences a difficult period in life, my father used to utter a simple mantra-like statement: This too will pass! This statement 'This too will pass' has been useful to me many times. But it is a double-edged sword. When the thing has passed, , the same feeling 'This too will pass' can sometimes be frightening during the resulting period of peace. As advaitins we have to repeatedly tell ourselves 'Live in the present'. Let us forget the past except to retain feelings of gratitude to those who have done well to us and feelings of apology to those to whom we have willy-nilly done wrong. Let us not fear the future except to expect the call of the Lord at any time. Thus the sorrow about the past and fear about the future both being out, let us live in the present and enjoy His Presence! Of course, this too will pass! Guest guest
--- "Madhava K. As if a dream > has passed by leaving some experiences to be carried > in this physical world! Namaste Madhva, For every drop of compassion we express for our fellow creatures so the Lord showers us all to cleanse the heart and dissolve the crystals of Light that defract the purity of Self. We all know that as we encounter the hills and vales arising from all that we have 'done' in the 'past'. May I please just pick up that word 'normal' please while at the same time sharing your relief and peace. Two days ago I had planned a day of study to give a talk to some friends. Firstly, the night before, the body had one of its post-operative sessions that denied it more than an hour's sleep; then came a telephone call that gave me a day's activity with no study time. So I had to give the talk from a position of weakness, rather than strength as I would have seen it, a case of 'living on the edge'. The telephone call was very relevant to this mail. Some friends who would be regarded as being very wealthy in the material world, had returned from an expensive holiday in South Africa. The wife rang me to say that upon return her husband had to tell her that the bank had closed their accounts, they had no money but huge debts as he had been trying to overcome the recent collapses in the Stock market by selling. Now they are broke and must sell their expensive house and take their children out of private schools. The wife has never known anything other than riches. In those were her strength as she perceived it. You all will appreciate her distress. In our conversation that day we were able to talk of the strength that is the feminine quality; the power of the powerful, and she could recognise this. In what some would see as a difficult time, and now utterly weakened by the loss of that which she had seen as being the source of her strength, she has discovered a more profound reality, a more real strength. As the turbulence of the present storm subsides and whatever is meant to be unfolds in their lives, she has been touched by that which is more real and permanent. It has been necessary for her to be weakened for this awakening. She has a reference point now for the future, a point ot revere, as the tamasic waves of 'normality' creep back. Hari Om, I join others in the list in welcoming back Shri Madhava who is both a moderator and also an "expert" in Advaita & Hindu Scriptures. May be he can share with us, what he learnt in the form of verification of teachings in our scriptures with reference to his situation. What was relevant and what was not? etc Whether the knowledge he has gained was helpful or whether the "tools" installed in his personality by spritual practice was more helpful? - This is my specific question. The answer is NOT "both", but which one matters most? Which is Rank 1 and which is Rank 2? Guest guest
namaste shri Madhava, and welcome back to the List. Only the other day, I was thinking about your extended absence from the List and was wondering how come. God presents us with situations. If our reactions to these situations is acceptance with equanimity, then there are no joyous highs or sorrowful lows. All is Her grace. Welcome back to the List and my heartiest blessings to you and the family. Regards Gummuluru Murthy --
